I only daytrade. But if I were to pick a long-term direction I'd say long. Solar stocks have been on fire lately. I guess if it goes south and breaks $175-174 level short would be more likely. But as long as it holds 175 I'm thinking long back to $207 level. Of course I'm by no means an expert...

My guess is it will close around $116-117 today, or even higher, and probably will move even higher tomorrow (depending on the price of oil). But it's just a guess - too risky for my taste.

I was in it this morning. Got stopped out twice. Gave up. It just had a good run up and I was tempted to jump in but there are safer plays out there. Potential drops of $0.50 past the stop price just aren't my idea of a good strategy.

Will the S&P hit 1000 or 700 first?

What do you think will happen after it hits 500?

Good call. Too bad I didn't listen. Went with PCLN and got stopped out. It was too late for the GVA action. OK, back to bed.

    Kiss Your Job GoodBye

Yeah, looks like you're right. Anybody can shed some light on this bill and this specific point? Where is it at as far as approval goes? If the bill passes then all the government has to do is decide how much the tax is going to be, not whether there will be tax or not.

Day Trading Thoughts For Wed. Feb. 11

I wonder if anyone could de-mystify this for me. This morning I check the news before open and CBG posted better than expected results (by +$0.10). Shares leap. Then I see this: "CB Richard Ellis Group, Inc. Earnings Conference Call (Q4 2008)". What does that mean? I thought the earnings have...

Will the S&P hit 1000 or 700 first?

From investopedia.com: What Does Rally Mean? A period of sustained increases in the prices of stocks, bonds or indexes. The period of time you referred to had both up and down movements, i.e. it was not a sustained increase. Following your logic one could say that the market has rallied...

Will the S&P hit 1000 or 700 first?

When exactly did that happen? If you're referring to a V-shaped dip/recovery that happened at the end of November when the S&P dropped a 100 points and then bounced right back - that doesn't count (and even if it did, that's only about 11%). Since then S&P went up slightly to 940 before dropping...

Will the S&P hit 1000 or 700 first?

I am not predicting the move one way or the other - I don't know - but every time I listen to those guys on finance.yahoo.com talk about a rally - they are wrong. They have been talking about 20-25% rallies since September and it just never happened. The market kept dropping 4% here, 6% there...

I use IB. But it's not the platform, it's the law - to day trade you must have at least $25K in your account. With less you are limited to 4 day trades in 5 business days. So I try to make mine count.

Got in at the open at $52.00. Was waiting for it to hit $54.00. Put $0.80 trailing stop. The motherf###ing thing was almost at the target but then turned around, dropped the whole $0.80 and stopped me out!!! I was slow with the trigger the second time around - could've picked it up even lower...

Thanks, I will do that. Although I am switching to Lightspeed for now. Might come back to IB in a while of course.

Thanks, I'll try that. Is there extra charge for that? Why isn't it available by default, do you know?

I was thinking of buying it today but you never know how the news are going to turn out and it's kinda expensive... Oh well... Anyway, what's up with the after hours trading? How can I get in on that? I tried putting in a bid last night for another stock and IB platform gave me a message that...

Day Trading Thoughts For Thurs. Jan. 29

Once again, thanks for taking the time to reply. Yeah, I kinda spaced out on the time of MO's earnings release - for some reason I thought it was going to be after today's close. I was concentrating on 3 other stocks that announced last night (happy to report all 3 moved over a dollar). I did...
