    Anybody Super Bullish on Oil

Oil will follow the Dow/SP500. It only makes ECONOMIC sense. Strong Dow, Strong economies; The latter means higher oil demand. If this reverses, LOOK OUT BELOW. Oil to 80. Not much lower.

If they begin to charge for cancel and replace orders, as someone alluded-to in this thread, these strategies will surely disappear.

10% unemployment but H1B visas accelerating

Oh yes they do, and don't forget all of those who got in "under the radar"....and the other "alphabet soup" programs, L1, etc. And this has been going on for over 10 years....or more. So that brings it up to about a million in my estimation.

Mark, you are obviously successful, but you are also in a different world. The statement I made can be shown to be true enough with all of the systematic trading failures mentioned on this very forum.

I see you like to create algos that are form fitted to the data then ... aka "curve fitting" ? Yeah, they work for a while...and build a false sense of confidence, and then when you pick up the size to make the big killing, they fall apart....and you must start all over.

10% unemployment but H1B visas accelerating

I surveyed the staffing of the employment agencies while on-contract at JP Morgan. They exposed all of the names of all of the employees of the agencies they use for staffing. By identifying the names of the personnel, I was able to determine that these agencies had 30% to 50% foreigners on...

10% unemployment but H1B visas accelerating

Exactly. The impact has been nothing short of dramatic. The politics of this have been documented: Influence-peddling by big corps in Washington. Man, have they benefited. Example: Merck maintains a 95% foreign outsourcing level for technology personnel. They monitor this MONTHLY. Heads fall...

No question about the differences - BUY SIDE vs. SELL SIDE. However, "each is such a different animal".....is what I challenge. The software only sees bid, ask, volume, prints, last price, etc. It doesn't know squat about futures or forex. A great system should work with all asset classes.

Yes you do, and you say you are quitting ? Actually, I'm doing the reverse. I'm in IT right now...and it stinks due to all of the outsourcing and insourcing.... I'd much rather be auto-trading, building and testing algos, measuring results, etc. Man, is this "Trading Places" or what ?

And this is now starting to sound the alarm bells - no Std Dev and this in a world where there are no certainties. If there is no STD DEV, then he's got the proverbial "Holy Grail".

That's believeable as an average, but what's the standard deviation ? I posted this and got no responses...It appears everyone is clueless in regards to the winning strategies and their potential. http://www.elitetrader.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=231782 I'll tell you one thing: the...

10% unemployment but H1B visas accelerating

Exactly...this is true economics 101 at work here. You've got to make comparisons with other professions: Relative to Lawyers, CPA's, Doctors and other service-oriented professions, a profession in IT has really seen a huge decline in real wages over the past 10 years. Again, that's relative...

A comment or two on neural nets: 1) everyone seems to be in awe of the technology....and they don't concentrate on the outcome of the model 2) NN's do a great job of curve fitting with the input data and given optimized solution of max profit $ or highest sharpe ratio.

    Excel Trading right from Spreadsheet?

Now there's some sound thinking. However, almost all signal-based systems can be considered to trigger "immediate" orders. Only gray box systems just alert the trader who then pulls the trigger....a very slow process relatively speaking. That being said, the salient point is regarding...
