How long did it take you to become consistently profitable?

I know that having my GF by me, especially naked, would be a huge incentive to trade well....LOL. :D

How much time do you spend monitoring your trading systems everyday

I agree. If your system has an ATIT (average time in trade) of a few hours, then maybe it would work-out....but if it's minutes or seconds.....forget it.

How long did it take you to become consistently profitable?

Can you explain what is the "breakeven plus one tick" strategy ?

How long did it take you to become consistently profitable?

Impressive to say the least. Was this futures or stocks or options ?

    Need someone to backtest something.

The P-win rate is pretty impressive. However, can someone please concisely recap the entry and exit signals/conditions ? All of the logic seems to be scattered throughout all of the posts in this thread.

Whewwwww Intel to cut 12,000 jobs....now they can easily sustain earnings growth moving forward

Tech in the USA is dead, dead, DEAD. Software, hardware, anywhere. IF you are a techie, get out, get out, GET OUT....and start trading.

Is Trading a profession or a hobby?

This is a great post. I am now a professional simply because my career in IT Consulting has ended.....mainly due to poor market conditions and H1B visa competition. I'll tell you this, if you can make it trading (i.e. $500+ per diem), it's a great business. No awful commuting, no demanding or...

    GDX - Up because of short-covering ?

Let's see... 1) weak global economic growth 2) potential for a June Fed rate hike 3) No real inflation in sight.....ok, ok...some material prices have risen recently. Time to short GDX ? I'd love to hear the opinions.

    Need someone to backtest something.

Can you recap his strat with more details ? I don't quite understand this: "Exit the position for settlement." Exit when ? Exit where ? So the entry is a break above the previous day's high or the previous day's low ?

    Just how reliable is backtesting?

I totally agree....especially this:"The system should be adaptive". For example, it needs to adjust for volatility. Small range bound conditions can really prove to be challenging.

Running_bear - yet another ET know-it-all....and loves to disparage fellow traders. Well done A-hole. re: "ie HMRC assert the tax shelter is not above board" Of course it won't be above board....doh. Stick the doh up your....

UK trader arrested for May 2010 U.S. Stock market flash crash

I wouldn't be certain of that. Spoofing is like lying.....and you know a liar can be telling the truth once in a while. Tough to distinguish between a spoof order and a real order IMHO.

UK trader arrested for May 2010 U.S. Stock market flash crash

How can you make this claim ? If it was so effective, and we know that to be the case, how can it be "hardly even good" ?

UK trader arrested for May 2010 U.S. Stock market flash crash

Ah....another ET "know it all". Reality ? The reality is that Nav pulled down about $10 million in 4 years. That's proof enough for me that his spoofing algo was "Real".

    Just how reliable is backtesting?

Good interview, but his book is not really selling that well. However, this guy's book is: Wow, 247 reviews !! 5 star average rating !!! This guy must be on to something....

    Just how reliable is backtesting?

I somewhat disagree. Backtesting can be valuable if you have a large enough sample size...say 10,000+ trades. Also, having successful backtest results with multiple symbols provides even more assurity that it will work in the future. I've seen many wanna-be's make the mistake of trying to...

Is Autotrading the solution to our psychological trading pain?

So much for the recent hoopla about machine learning and artificial intelligence. I wonder if IBM's "Watson" can be trained to trade well ? Why hasn't IBM tried that ? If successful, that would really hit the news wires.

Made the rookie mistake of buying a long straddle...

So when VIX is high but projected to go lower, SELL the straddle. Another strat: when VIX is low, buy the straddle, but immediately close the one side depending on the next move made.
