Jim Cramer doesn’t beat the market

I can't believe he continues to survive. Do you have some links for us to follow his escipades ?

Jim Cramer doesn’t beat the market

I like Jim for what he's done personally....and all that wealth he's accumulated.... but this just says it all as to his recent performance: "Shares of TheStreet TST, +0.00% have declined nearly 40% over the past year and are now trading at around $1.10 a share."

What is the best platform for backtesting?

I see you are an MC "basher".....but actually MC does #1 and #2 pretty well. I mean Power Language is pretty easy to understand, albeit understanding all of the declaratives and options has gotten a bit more complex. Intrabar Order Generation and Bar Magnifier are huge features IMHO. However...

VRX - time to buy ?

I'm with you on that strategy Handle. Now if we could get the entire biotech sector to stabilize...that would help in this trade as well. Everyone hates biotech/pharma....contrast that with 9 months ago, when it was the market "darling" sector....LOL.

What is the best platform for backtesting?

I agree, that's pretty bad. They obviously have a bug in their currency conversion methods or functions. However, to me, that is not a show stopper. Now, that being said, if they were not computing the Sharpe or Sortino ratio correctly, that WOULD be a show stopper.

Will I make the big $$$ with this Firm?

Well that just kills this "deal". I remember my days of trading on the ever-so-awful Lightspeed trading platform of 10 years ago which had no support for Stop orders. Totally sucked, totally. You couldn't go to the men's room....everyone pee'd in their pants. The platform on which you trade is...

Valient was up today when the market was down. Bounced off it's all time lows.

Will I make the big $$$ with this Firm?

Again, this sounds "too good to be true". I've never heard of a prop firm offering this kind of deal. What if you lose $200 per day for the first few days ? What happens then ? Can you post their contract terms ? I'd love to see the fine print on this deal.

VRX - time to buy ?

I agree with that 80 level as a buy. However, my point was that stocks that appear to be strong on the charts can be good shorting opportunities. Look at AAPL for instance. No one was talking short on this one 4 months ago. CMG is another one. AMZN could be the next one to take a hit.

What is the best platform for backtesting?

Exactly. These high frequency traders have an average-time-in-trade of seconds. Many algo traders have the same metric in minutes....and multicharts with a decent data feed should accomodate that with high reliability.

VRX - time to buy ?

Trends change quickly....especially after large moves and conditions of over or under valuation. Review the 6 month chart of NFLX and tell me where the "obvious" short was ?

    NFLX

Now, at this level, its just a tradeable stock with no direction. The down move has been made. Expect an upward retracement, and then choppy action.

Help for a new algo trader...

Quantopian is fine, but limited. There are no options to generate signals based on tick-bars or range-bars or volume-bars. I believe their finest resolution is 1 minute bars. Other platforms are much more robust.

Are there any AMP reps on this site that can confirm or deny ?

VRX - time to buy ?

VRX nearing that 23.55 low print of about 3 weeks ago. All of biotech continues weak as measured with the XBI ETF.

Clarification of AMP's $1,000 subscription pricing model

If that is the case, that is an excellent deal. Interactive Brokers would be at $2.02 per side (Tier 1) compared to the $1.68 AMP rate.... this assumes at least 2000 trades per year. At 4000 trades per year, this would be $1.43 per side for AMP. Now, that said, AMP still looks good at IB tier 3...
