IndyMac Bank (IMB) to file for Chapter 11 on 7/1/08

IMB traded at a 60m market cap yesterday. TMA at 70m market cap. No big surprises here I guess. DSL and BKUNA look very similar.

http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601213&sid=ahmkboBVHNeg&refer=invest June 30 (Bloomberg) -- Investors should buy ``crash protection'' against a plunge this year in European stocks because losses are likely and insurance costs are low, according to Goldman Sachs Group Inc. The...

Poh, I stand corrected on the subprime paper. It seems Schiff was short from Feb 2007.

How Big will the Bear be?

Ok, I will make it easy for all of us and basically summarize the collective wisdom of ET: - It will be the worst bear market ever. You haven't seen nothing yet. Forget about trading. Close all longs, keep the shorts and let them ride all the way down to SPX 500. End of thread.

    GM Bankruptcy Thread

The big difference between todays cars and a car from the 80s is the amount of complex electronics installed. Sensors, CPU, automatic this, automatic that. Hundreds of tiny little gadgets that can break. Sucks but I think its the same across all upper-middle class brands like the Germans, Volvo...

    Lehman sinking fast

How Big will the Bear be?

Say do you ever decide a trade didn't work out the way you planned, take a loss and move on like a trader would? Or do you infinitely average down into losing positions? Adding to LEH & GM?

How Big will the Bear be?

That's an interesting theory considering Chrysler and Cerberus are both private companies.

    Peter Schiff interview from 2006....

I'll tell you why. Schiff has been claiming US equities are in a historic bubble and remain grossly overvalued and at the same time he claims the grass is greener on the other side and says European and Asian equities offer amazing value propositions. He is acting as if markets were completely...

    Peter Schiff interview from 2006....

Why care about currencies when you can simply hedge your US Dollars with spot forex and collect the positive carry? Why doesn't Schiff explain to us why it's better to outright buy European or Asian stocks than buying US stocks and shorting the corresponding amount of US Dollars and going...

WTF - Fortis, RBC, Barclays, GS - all calling for a FINANCIAL MELTDOWN!!!!

Hundreds of regional banks and thrifts went under in 1991/92/93 and the market didn't crash (although it went into a bear market when using the Value Line Arithmetic Index which represents the average stock). The difference is much of the pain was concentrated on smaller banks back then, today...

    Dow 8,000 you ready?

You mean worse than the 30s depression that saw banks lock their doors for weeks and put "on vacation" notices in their windows to prevent bank runs? You mean unemployment reaching an estimated 25%? Millions of people lose their home, becoming unable to pay their rent, becoming unemployed...

A bucket of cold water for newbies...

Funny thing is, most people starting a business selling hotdogs from a cart in the street with $10,000 starting capital rarely think they will be rich within a year. Some people starting trading with $10,000 do think they will own the world within a year. Weird.

    New stock_trad3r index

Frank I agree with you, no question. Just saying that I personally prefer a 20% return with low volatility (That I think your short/long approach is aiming at) than a 50% return with a very bumpy ride (that's Stock is knowingly or unknowingly aiming at).
