    when is capitulation day?

Sentimentrader's ROBO (retail only buy on open only) put/call ratio now slowly approaching levels that were reaching during previous major lows. Obviously retail traders were rather complacent during the recent market decline, until now...

    traders got nailed today--------

Getting out with a loss doesn't mean a trader is doomed and can't live to come back another day. Those traders that can't admit they're wrong and stay in losing positions too long tend to fail.

    Corporate Bonds

An alternative approach to playing high yield/corporate bonds is using closed-ended bond funds. Goto http://www.cefa.com and e.g. search for "Corporate Debt" funds traded on the NYSE.

    Where do i get started?

Make a plan defining your goals in trading, just like you'd make a business plan for running a start-up company. Adjust and refine as you go. The two things you will need is patience and capital. 5k isn't much. Make sure you have a very very long horizon and don't lose confidence quickly.

    Paradox of value investing

Maybe a good analogy is the buying decision process you would go through when buying a brick and mortar private business, say a fast food restaurant. Say a good friend of yours if retiring and offers you his sandwich shop. Say it makes 45k per year net after all wages and costs, depreciation...

The lowest strike trading is $2.5. Stock closed at $0.28 on Friday. The $2.5 put traded at $2.25. The put is going to 'explode' from $2.25 to $2.50. Congrats to all winners

90 Banks on FDIC's problem watch list

Hundreds of small irrelevant banks went under in the S&L crisis. This is part of the clean-up. However, it will get critical if big boys like C, WB, JPM, BAC go under.

VIX here VIX there. Too many sheep watching it and waiting for a bell to be rung as a buy signal, it's been all over the news for weeks. Waste of time.

    IndyMac Fails

IMB's market cap went from ~4.5bln a year ago to 28.25m on Friday's close. Now the media is reacting like it's a big surprise IMB is finished. I can already imagine the headlines on DSL and BKUNA.

    Paradox of value investing

Not only should it then be bought at $79.99 according to the value doctrine, but bought all the way down. Value investors will typically back up the truck as price falls below perceived 'fair value' derived by their analysis when nothing has changed in the fundamentals. Can end up being very...

    vix spike = temp bottom

Not sure if this means anything, but I find it harder and harder to find short inventory in IB for regular SP500 large cap companies. Right now couldn't short HSY DUK CCL D HPQ NUE due to lack of inventory. Rarely seen this many unshortable 'big' stocks

    Market Crash Imminent?

I'd rather look at 1974 as a possible scenario (a long steep waterfall sell-off) rather than 1987. Most people forget that 1987 happened after an insane +30% rally from January to ~August of 1987 took place.
