I don't like when the market goes higher.

With all of those voices in your head, I'd suggest a good antipsychotic med :) and follow the advice of reply #1... Trade what you see not what you think.

    Fear of quitting day job...

Surprisingly, a lotta good points in this chain :) The more daring have suggested that you should shed the corporate shackles immediately and go for it, come hell or high water. The more conservative have suggested that you should find a way to maintain an income while trying to learn and...

Newbie question on income by selling calls

------------------------------------------------------------------------- Another risk is the gap risk. If GOOG moves up and closes slightly below 590 and then gaps up a lot, you might buy GOOG stock at a price higher than 590 with the buy stop order...

Newbie question on income by selling calls

It makes no difference how high the premium goes as long as the stock is bought at the strike (1 round lot per naked call) - the income sought will be attained. Breakeven is strike plus premium so one can buy the stock up to $194.40 If stock is bot below 190, the gain will be larger, if...

Newbie question on income by selling calls

I would not wait until 590 to hedge not would I buy 100 shares per naked call. I would delta hedge, buying more (or less) shares based on my bias. With the shares in place, you could gamma scalp any choppiness in the market.

Daytrading C (or any other stock's) earnings day

If you have no idea what the market's reaction to the EA will be (up or down), it's a bad idea to have a directional equity position in place because if the news is bad, not only will it be a fast market but there might be a gap. In order to get out, you're going to have to lead price with...

You can get option chains with IV at: https://www.optionsxpress.com/OXNetTools/Chains/index.aspx?SessionID=&Symbol=RUT&Range=4&lstMarket=0&ChainType=&AdjNonStdOptions=OFF&lstMonths=&FromVB6=True I believe that their numbers are based on an average of the bid and ask so if you need precise...

    Day trader and Tax Filing?

The gubbermint is making some regulatory changes. I don't know the cut off date but non CPA's are going to have to pass an exam in order to continue to prepare returns. I don't know if it's true but I also heard that at some point in the not too distant future, all returns will have to be...

Resource for list of stocks likely to be market movers

I think it would be great if such a site exists. But who knows what stocks are "likely" to move? Great earnings but a penny short can be a flat line or a plummet. Who knows? If you're going to trade the move post EA, that's a different story. I have no idea what your filter criteria are so...

    Day trader and Tax Filing?

If you're reconciling your trades properly and you've correctly calculated your capital gains (as well as tax owed), why would you be concerned that filing electronically makes it easier for the IRS to audit you? What are they going to get out of you if your numbers are correct? I wish I...

Which Trading Environment Would You Choose To Hone Your Skills In?

Not a pro but I've hit some decent volume the past two years so here's my two cents... Start on a demo. Even tho it's not the real thing, it's like training wheels - you get to wade in rather than diving in (I dove in). You can learn the mechanics of trading, in particular, familiarizing...

Capital allocation amongst different option strategies

My 2 cents is what's feasible is what's working. I don't think that it's too hard to figure out what strategies are doing better and shift one's bias in that direction. AFAIK, avoidance of excess leverage and good money management are of greater importance than an allocation flow sheet. Be...
