    multi-strategy options traders

There's no inherent edge to diversifying among strategies. Timing, selection and money management are of greater importance. Dividends are priced into puts and calls so there's no advantage to a covered call over a naked put from the standpoint of dividends (the NP's advantage is less...

    who are the winning traders?

You have no way of knowing who's telling the truth here. And even if you did, just because someone is a good trader, there's no guarantee that you could make a penny with their system because success involves more than the set up (money management, risk tolerance, stress tolerance, etc.)...

Buying a Stock and Selling a Put

No one said "go back to basics." It was suggested that you should do yourself a very big favor and read a basic book on options because based on the questions you've been posing, it's clear to many that you need to learn a lot more before you're ready to trade. If you really are 16 with only...

Where do fractional shares come from?

As I understand it, if it's a DRIP operated by the company, the DRIP shares come out of the company's reserves and therefore have no effect on market prices (you transact with the company). DRIP shares at a broker come from market transactions. Services like Share Builder, The MoneyPaper...

Buying a Stock and Selling a Put

Dude, this is wrong on so many levels. As pointed out by many, it's not a protective put and your potential loss far exceeds $200. If the stock is at $3.73 and the May 7-1/2 put is $3.60, that means that it's trading below parity. IOW, if assigned, you're buying this lot for $3.90. WTH...

    What's wrong with this edge?

If you're going to trade with an inverted risk/reward ratio you had better be darn sure that your probability rate is achievable (9 wins out of 10 trades). For the past two years I've traded with inverted risk/reward but did fine. Last year I had 69% winners with a +2/-3 dollar win/loss rate...

    Are writing options profitable?

Repeating the strategy until assigned may be problematic because in a rising market you'll get bupkus for that 62-1/2 strike or you'll have to lower your standards :) and raise the strike sold. The other problem is that it's not rare for XOM to drop 10 pts or more over 2-3 days - and it's a...

    Are writing options profitable?

What does the portfolio look like? It's a portfolio achieved from adverse selection. Consider one who is writing covered calls on owned stocks. The good stocks that rise are called away (no upside participation) and you get to keep anything neutral as well as the lousy ones which drop...

    Are writing options profitable?

Managing naked puts is no different than managing long stock that is tanking. And the risk of unleveraged naked puts is less than owning the underlying outright since the acquisition price will always be lower due to the premium received. The two big problems with naked options are leverage...

    What Happens If...

Nothing happens because you can't sell a naked option in a cash account nor can you do it if you have insufficient margin in a margin account nor can you do it with Level II approval since naked writing requires a higher level of approval. All you can do is get replies...

Pre-market: earliest time to place orders...

Dya think that contacting IB might give you the answers? If you open an order ticket and click destination, it wiill list available ECNs. I can''t tell you how early they trade since I don't log in until 7 AM.

Pre-market: earliest time to place orders...

Yes, you can place orders before 8 AM EST if your broker offers it and has routing to ECNs showing quotes. Keep in mind that unless there's news, that early in the day most stocks trade by appointment (very low liquidity) with wide spreads.
