The big problem is the huge number of different platforms each supporting their own proprietary API or proprietary language. In the case of Quantopian, you must know Python. In the world of IB, you can use Java, C#, C++, VBA, whatever...but you must learn their API inside and out. Ninja Trader...

Forget the old version of TWS....the API has improved somewhat since that time period....it's been almost 10 years. They've fixed a ton of bugs since then.... Unfortunately, it's a big job doing the conversion.

I think you have a re-write on your hands....unless you want to decifer IB's DDE implementation......and good luck with that. I once reviewed that code and almost threw-up....it was so bad. Another alternative is going the ActiveX route and implementing the tws.ocx component.

Exactly. His concern :"market closing during trading hours because of some huge event." would only apply in the case of a flash crash. I believe the exchanges have all put in fixes to prevent that from ever occurring again. Now if he was holding a position overnight, now that's a different...
