    Pressure Cooker

He may be able to explain why Brown responded to the cop as he did. What difference does it make? It's still about race. Would this have gone down differently if he had been white? Maybe. Is it likely? We'll never know. Nonetheless, every comment that has been made since the kid was shot has...

    Pressure Cooker

If you mean from a bystander, probably because no one was able to foresee the future. If you mean from the cop or the cop's car, good question. Who knows? Unfortunately, he can't tell us. He's dead. Stay tuned.

    What Is Income Redistribution?

Yes, under Repubs -- including Nixon and Ford -- the debt began to increase. Under Clinton it decreased to the point where we had a surplus. Then it shot up again under Bush. The debt increased under Obama for various reasons that had nothing to do with his being a Democrat. So what's your point?

    Wingnuts

Actually the leftists want to progress to socialism. It's the rightists who want to regress to oligarchical feudalism. They want to disenfranchise everyone but the patriarchy so that they can maintain their position. See? I can be just as paranoid as the right.

Then clearly you haven't been around. As for the constitution of the gang, the body doesn't care who's delivering the blow.

It's all about race. That you don't understand that comes as no surprise to me.

    What Is Income Redistribution?

Unless we understand how we got here, we can't fix it. Of course there are plenty who believe that there is nothing to be fixed. I assume you're one of them since you think Reagan -- the guy who put us on the road to all this debt -- was such a great president. In which case, I'll let you go...

    Perry indicted

The comment had to do with political assassination. And, no, Muskie did not have a nervous breakdown. And "the guys" who served with Kerry backed him up. Try to focus on what's being said rather than on what you think is being said. It'll save a lot of time.

Our Ongoing Destruction of the Planet

Actually I'm just as concerned about the destruction of the land and the air, but not as much as I used to be.

A hypothetical event proposed solely for the purpose of feeding and rationalizing racism. If I were walking along down a dark street in a large US city in the middle of the night for some unexplained reason, I'd be concerned about a group of drag queens who hadn't scored by last call. I'd be...

Scream like a little girl, fall to the pavement and beg them not to kill me. Then when they've stopped laughing, I'd offer to buy them all a drink at that bar across the street.

Anarchists are closer to libertarians than "leftists" (whatever those are). In any case, I clearly missed your discussion of protesters at G20 meetings. As for Bundy shooting anybody, his followers shot and killed two police officers and a civilian.

I know. I was trying to be sarcastic in my own clumsy way. But you bailed me out, so it's all good.

Our Ongoing Destruction of the Planet

Well, progress has been made, such as with recycling, though it took 50 years to get where we are. OTOH, you still have people clinging to their plastic bags as though they were a lifeline of some sort. Does any of it matter? Probably not. Most likely we're just kidding ourselves. But the only...

I must have missed your accounts of "leftists" rioting, looting and killing each other, and those around them". As to "modern day events", the robocops, TSA, HSD and so forth are about as "modern day" as one can get. What do the Crusades have to do with it? As for tea party "folks" being...

Our Ongoing Destruction of the Planet

Do we have the ability to restore or fix some of the places in the ocean that have already come close to being destroyed, or should the focus now just be on saving the rest and preventing further harm? I think a priority should be to protect those areas that are still in pretty good shape, on...

Our Ongoing Destruction of the Planet

Some of the studies coming out now about just how much plastic is in the oceans– it’s hard to believe. It is, but that too is derived largely from fossil fuels, as we have begun to extract oil, gas and coal on the scale that has characterized the latter part of the 20th century and now the...

Our Ongoing Destruction of the Planet

LINDSAY ABRAMS There are two reasons why you need to watch “Mission Blue,” the new documentary from directors Fisher Stevens and Robert Nixon that premiered Friday on Netflix. For one, it’s a fascinating exploration of the damage we’re causing in the world’s oceans. And even more enticingly...

Human-€induced climate change requires urgent action

Yes, he was, and his presentation was compelling, in the same way that Chariots of the Gods was compelling, though ultimately silly (though one never really knows). But the fiction novel The HAB Theory is fun. Beach reading.
