    64-bit vs 32-bit

I believe a single process can only address 2GB of memory with or without PAE. If it's loaded with the /3GB switch then it can address 3GB. PAE is only advantageous when you run multiple processes.

    64-bit vs 32-bit

You might run into a lot of compatibilitiy issues if you go 64bit. Of course that depends on what software you use but chances are down the road you would run into a piece of software you must have that doesn't support 64 bit. My solution is to go for windows 2003 server enterprise edition...

Poll: Will the Globex be No More?

The asian market is down 10% today and globex is just reflecting that drop. With globex at least you can stay up at night and get out. Without it it would just be an overnight gap of similar size.

    Can anyone here read Chinese?

It is broken chinese characters with no meaning. It is probably simplified chinese in GB coding which your computer can't display properly (windows only natively support unicode).

    >via account management under acct administration, there is a choice to restrict use to a specific IP address. Didn't know that. This is great! Thanks Def!

    is IB's action legal

Def, I opted out the token logon because I use the API to trade and find it very annoying to need to manually logon every morning. Is it possible that IB provide an option to only allow access from a registered computer? I know tradestation does that and it seems a good idea. I don't want...

What's the best currency to hold as Cash?

You can consider holding HKD. It's pegged to the USD and thus you have no exchange rate exposure under normal circumstances. However in the extremely unlikely case that the USD does fall apart the HK government has the option to unpeg the currency and likely scenario is that it would rise...

    Bernanke: dumb as rocks

Hong Kong is not going to follow the cut because HIBOR has been staying at the high level. In fact banks here are going to raise rate soon. Any fed cut is meaningless right now as it doesn't get pass thru by the banks. It's a waste of ammo.

Need Computer Help Please. Processor Vs. RAM

I would suggest you don't spend a fortune on computers because it's going to be a complete write off in 3 or 4 years. These days the lower cost CPUs are so powerful they can handle pretty much everything except for extreme gaming and number crunching. I would suggest you go for a Intel Core 2...

Calling it quits and saying goodbye to ET

I've seen this post before and now it's obvious you're trying to capitalize on other people's sympathy. It is amazing you're lazy enough to just copy and paste your old post. At least you should have come up with a new story. Jesus Christ... OP you're an evil bastard...

Is my money safe at Interactive Brokers ?

Here's a link regarding where IB put customers assets: http://individuals.interactivebrokers.com/en/general/education/faqs/safetyFAQ.php?ib_entity=llc It's reassuring to hear what they're doing: "As of mid-September 2008, IB customer cash is held to a large extent in U.S. Treasury bills...

Federal funds rate jumps to 7 %

Please educate me and totally I'm not familiar with how this works. If banks are afraid to lend to each other because they don't know what the other banks have on their books it means the money is out there right? They just don't want to lend it to other *banks* because they don't trust each...

Excellent Commentary on the bailout.. We got it all wrong!

If the process yeild a loss then Treasury will have to pay interest to the bond holders each year which comes from the tax payers. In fact the tax payers are paying interest from day one the Treausry sells US Treasury paper to bond holders. Bond holders lend the money to the US for a price...

    Esignal "not responding" and freezes

Scott, I'm only using the data manager and not the esignal charting. I think I'm using version 10 (not even 10.1). Would upgrading to 10.1 or 10.2 benefit me in this case? I didn't upgrade because I've been thinking all the multithreaded upgrades are charting related and have nothing to...

How is Jim Rogers so smart?

Please note that for the size of their trading they have to be "too early"... The only way Buffett can get out of his position is to sell "too early" into the frantic crowd and the unload process alone can take many months. 6 months time frame is very very accurate for their size of his trading...

Why the 'bailout' won't work and the U.S. is now a sham democracy

I'm very very disappointed. The american system in essence is a system designed for the financial institutions to milk the people. It's no different from the monarchy system or dictatorship where one man or one party milk all the people . What we have here is financialism where wall street milk...

Foreigners!!!!!! you just cannot trust them

What did the foreigers do that you can't trust them? Let's see: 1) They've been working like 100 hours a week and send you cheap clothing, shoes, electronics ...etc and receive a piece of US IOU paper in return for the last 10 or 20 years. 2) During that time they saw the value of their...

    Esignal "not responding" and freezes

I have experienced esignal data disruption on a weekly basis for the last two months. Almost once or twice every week the data streaming would halt and my data lost alarm would set off and I would have to disconnect and reconnect to esignal. What the hell is happening with esignal? It used to...
