Here We Go Again with IB

Steve, are you in Europe? As I said I had a few disconnects but had also some problems with my charting feed (charts filling very slowly....) so obviously it's hard to blame IB, at least on my part

Here We Go Again with IB

I am in Europe and have had a few disconnections today. However none has lasted more than one minute so it's not a big deal

Trademade vs. Aspen vs. CQG (programming, market profile, overlays) - help please

CQG is the ultimate trader's choice. Tradestation and Esignal are good software (even if coding is easier in CQG) but the data quality is not there. Run the same trading system on different esignal servers and you won't get the same results.

    UK Scalpers

It's 100% true. This guy was not a scalper, he was going for at least 30 ticks so what's the problem if you enter on 3 levels of depth. You can't imagine how big some prop traders bet at investment banks. We were allowed to make big bets because the head of the dealing room was an ex prop trader...

    UK Scalpers

You can have Dow Jones Newswires with CQG. In my opinion, it's not worth paying around 2000$/mth each for Bloomberg and Reuters just to use 1% of it.

    UK Scalpers

Bloomberg and Reuters are useless if you trade futures outright. A CQG with dual/triple screen is all you need.

    UK Scalpers

He wasn't displaying the size, just lifting offers or hitting bids. The year he made 25m, he didn't try to scare the market, he was just in the zone, in perfect sync with market (I can tell that I know I will never see something similar in my life; there were days you thought he had received the...

    UK Scalpers

You are right, it's around 4 ticks per day but don't forget that generally, it cost 3 or 4 levels of depth to execute his size and he liked to enter all his size at once. Some days, him alone was doing 3% of the daily bund volume.

    UK Scalpers

I didn't know about thet one but the guy I am talking about was mainly daytrading and sometimes holding for 2-3 days. That's a big difference.

    UK Scalpers

At an I Bank I won't name, I sat next a guy who made 25million Eur in 99 trading the bund up to 3000 lots at a time. Then he lost 8millions during the first quarter of 2000 and got fired (he got fired because he refused to reduce his size during his drawdown and even increased it)

    Wyckoff's comment on Gann

I agree with Steve. Harry, you look like a child with a big ego. Shut up, share your Grail or show us your account statements!!!

How do you get a job as a Trader with a bank or investment firm?

No. Sales talk to clients and traders make prices and manage their books (some are also allowed to prop trade) It can be very very tensed between sales and traders. Sales always want to make a deal (that's the only way they are judged: the number and importance of their deals). Traders don't...

How do you get a job as a Trader with a bank or investment firm?

What do they sell? - cash bonds, equities, forex...: what counts for them is making the trade and seeing the flow. So an agressive trader will usually quote a mid price to an important institutional investor just to see the flow. - complex derivative structures: that is a BIG profits area...

How do you get a job as a Trader with a bank or investment firm?

As I said earlier, there is indeed an old guard who didn't make it through the trading program. But this is more and more an image from the past. I had older colleagues who began in the back office before getting a trading desk. But nowadays, the best way is the trading program. If you can't...

How do you get a job as a Trader with a bank or investment firm?

Don't agree. When top or second tier banksa gree to take you as a trainee (after you have shown them your degree and passed a few tests), you directly sit on the desk. You won't need to bring coffee for others. They will directly assess your potential by giving you the full responsability of a...

How do you get a job as a Trader with a bank or investment firm?

Never said MBA was useful, it's just the entry key, just as I need a visa to come to the USA. Generally you you will find more quants working as traders or analysts and more holders of an MBA on the sales side. Does one need to be a quant or hold a MBa to be a succesful trader: surely not...
