I guess the fed was right?

Many of us do, but Joe Average working a 9-to-5 doesn't. He depends on his job. Recessions have companies laying off people in masses. I am sure the Fed has run different economic scenarios running into 2008 and 2009 and concluded the long-term economic risks of a deep recession outweigh...

I guess the fed was right?

Yes, I don't hear any apologies from those that insulted the Fed heads right after the cut. The move seems justified now.

Austinp, good to hear you're doing well. I just meant to say hello to everybody here that I enjoyed lively discussions with in the last couple weeks, that's all. Didn't mean to insult anyone :) Good trading everyone. (I am never flat at the close, as I have boatloads of small equity...

    How to value a stock?

That wasn't my point. It doesn't mean it's not worth $40 to them strategically.

To commemorate the 12th gap up in the ES in the last 10 trading sessions, I just wanted to send some shout outs to my old school bear buddies Frank Grimes, Detective, ByLowSellHi, Comanche, S270027, Austinp

    How to value a stock?

Question is not clear. Worth to whom? A Private equity company will evaluate an investment different than 100 Million individual market participants (=the stock market) or a competitor (i.e. Yahoo might only be worth $20 a share to us mortals but it might be worth $40 a share to Microsoft)...

    Yale Up 28% - 5 Billion Gain

I think he's talking about the last three months, including August? -> "Mr. Swensen said that in the last three months, the university had posted “modest positive investment returns.” Renaissance Global Equities posted a flat return for August BTW.

    Yale Up 28% - 5 Billion Gain

Just another piece of evidence how professionals allocate a considerable portion of their assets into hedge funds while the media and retail investors rip into them whenever they can, crying about "horrendous fees" or the occasional blowup.

    Trading returns.

You are missing that you likely don't have a 10 year track record that illustrates what level of risk you take in order to achieve your gains. I can goto Vegas and make 1000% in a good night. And lose everything the next night.

    Gold Stocks

What do you expect though? Somebody to give you the green light "Yes go ahead buy". Look at the $XAU chart. They already had quite a nice run. Are you a momentum trader in your IRA? Or are you simply looking for inflation protection? Explain your motivation for considering adding gold stocks...

Tim Sykes Article in Financial Times

Maybe ET should have a separate forum for that more can share their inspirational experience? "How I made a couple hundred K over 400 trades and then blew up on a single trade!!!!". Sounds awesome! Very inspirational!
