The more you know , the less you know

"The more you know, the less you know." Doesn't work, because the conclusion it reaches is to "know less". That's why it really doesn't say anything. It's like a sculptor - first you have to build a big blob of clay, then your time and attention may strip away the excess until a sculpture...

    Star Trek lives

Star Trek had its roots in Science Fiction, so it leveraged ideas and theories of the time and projected them into the future (all in action/adventure wrapper of course). Star Wars is Space Fantasy (Arthur and Knights of the Roundtable stuff) and the Death Star or Darth Vader was the...

Christina Romer: Big Bank Bonuses 'Outrageous

Sorkin of NY Times made a list of questions for Wed - for those Congressmen/Senators who are clueless. Which is probably most of them. http://www.nytimes.com/2010/01/12/business/12sorkin.html What the Financial Crisis Commission Should Ask

Steve Schmidt: Palin Believed Candidacy 'God's Plan'

Actually, she would have to say that Schmidt's descriptions were not accurate, not the reporters, since they were interviewing him and those were his comments. In fairness to Palin, I don't think anyone can be just dropped into the crucible of Prez politics and not get rattled. But it's...

    Thinking like the Bigfish

It sounds like you are suggesting economic and social engineering by induced globalized megatrends. Not sure.

    I'm shorting AAPL and GOOG

The rumor of Apple's possible tablet announcement (7-10" screen) is what made the stock pop just before Christmas. They have yet to unveil anything and the buzz is a demo is scheduled for this month. Only Jobs knows fer sure... There was some heat to be had in the Q's at the start of the...

    The charting software dilema

Ok, I was being sarcastic. What I described is a situation where the pricing is "ownership" but the usage is "rental". Maybe there can be a new term coined for rental/purchase, like "Rentchase".

    The charting software dilema

The proper word for that is "rental", not "purchase". You don't own anything if their authentication mechanism is down or goes away. In that case, purchasing means you pay a one time fee for renting the software.

Goldman Sachs CEO Lloyd Blankfein Named Financial Times Person Of The Year

People in Congress like Dodd, Frank, Schumer, and Graham on the receiving end? Not so sure about that, unless it's the receiving end of lobbyist money. Sure Congress is to blame too, but who has enough money to buy Congress? I'm not sure how the FT pick works. Is it like Time Mag, where...

China Sticks Goldman with the Bill!

This is interesting in that China is basically saying "We don't play by your rules." Maybe Hank Paulson can go over there and convince them to pay GS - he used to love going to China all the time in the past. Though, since he was running GS back when all the derivatives were being...

How can we buy shares of the Fed ?

That wouldn't make sense though - banks already benefit from low-cost money that they can use and multiply. That already is a huge windfall. Why would some banks also get dividend money? "...After paying its expenses, the Federal Reserve turns the rest of its earnings over to the U.S...

Greenspan: Fed has done an extraordinary job to bolster employment

If they outsource it overseas they can get 40,000,000 for the same price.

How can we buy shares of the Fed ?

The banks make profits by getting low interest money from the Fed, then using money multiplier to make loans and get interest on the loans. Where is the $10-30 Billion coming from? Though krazykarl did raise a good point about whether or not the Fed functions as a NPO. If it does, then again...

How can we buy shares of the Fed ?

That's an interesting assertion - that the for-profit banks set up a non-profit central bank. Is that a likely scenario? Does anyone know if the Fed is explicitly mandated to be a NPO - covering only it's operating cost without disbursements to shareholder banks? A corporation's primary...

Soloflex & Home Gyms in General

Agree with the earlier post on forearms. I am not a Muscle & Fitness mag looking guy, but enough so a barmaid smiled at me and asked if I worked out. I joked with her that I was wearing an inflatable muscle suit and should look bigger but the suit had a slow leak (no way am I Ahnold-size)...

    Consistently Profitable Trading System

"trade" is kind of a loose term. One person's "trade" is another's "investment". There are ideas posted out there all over the place. I just ran a test on one I originally saw last week (slapped together the rules it had when I read it and just looked at it again) - now I wish I could...

Yoohoo's guide to becoming a great trader

That's exactly the point - if you end up following something that is bad - that's YOUR business, not TZ's.
