State Street faces $22 Bil exposure to conduits: report

I always love hearing that the market has to "wake up" to something or has to "price in this and that fact". The equity markets have to do nothing and they're a lot smarter in discounting future events that you, me and everybody else combined here on the board. Just follow price and sector...

bad news for perma bears and shorts

Stock, it's so easy to spot that you just try to fill your posts with as much perma bullish non-sense as you possibly can just to create fake drama and controversy on the board. The above post reads almost like sarcasm written by a perma bear. If you added a little more balance you'd be so...

RenTec considering selling equity stake in its $20 bln equity hedge fund

(Not sure why looking for equity investors is automatically a bullish sign. Maybe RenTec doesn't see things as rosy and wants to bring in outside equity capital and partners?) http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/269211a2-54d4-11dc-890c-0000779fd2ac.html Bullish US hedge fund may sell stake By Ben...

Financial sector insider buying at 12 year highs

john12, maybe the point they're trying to make in the article is that it's not the absolute dollar volume that surged but the relative amount of stocks bought compared to previous periods? Also, insider selling statistically has little predictive value as opposed to insider buying.

    Unknown investor purchases 245,000 x 2,800 Sept 21 puts on EUROSTOXX50

"Mystery trader bets market will crash by a third" 16 Aug 2007 An anonymous investor has placed a bet on an index of Europe's top 50 stocks falling by a third by the end of September, as world equity markets plunged for a third day and volatility hit a three-year high. The mystery...

Financial sector insider buying at 12 year highs

Insiders' Buying by Banks Rises to Highest Since 1995 By Daniel Hauck and Michael Patterson Aug. 27 (Bloomberg) -- Not since 1995 have so many chief executive officers of so many financial firms and their insiders bought so many shares in their companies as in August, when the market...

US Could Be Heading for a Recession

Yup, let's all wear tin foil hats. Inflation is at record numbers unheard of before, 10 year interest rates are going to 6%, we're in a recession since 2 (or how many exactly???) quarters and PE ratios are at all time highs due to buybacks and stock option dilution. Put all your money in...

US Could Be Heading for a Recession

Just so you understand what you're saying with the above statement. After +0.6% (Q1) and +3.4% (estimate for Q2) a) you're saying the Q2 number will be revised to negative growth after the 3.4% estimate b) you're saying Q3 growth (current quarter) will come in negative Thus you'd have...

US Could Be Heading for a Recession

We've been hearing this "the consumer is done" nonsense since five years now. That doesn't mean it will never come true, it's just like a broken clock. I see no need to join the tinfoil perma bears before the fact happens. Let's see non-farm payroll, let's see consumer confidence, let's see...

25-30% yearly profits, reallistic in Forex?

Not risikier per se, but a lot easier to leverage up. The risk comes from not understanding the power and risk of leverage. Many "play" forex at 50x or 100x and blow up their accounts every now and then. Remember the -7% overnight AUDJPY move just 2 weeks ago? That must have annihilated...

    Why Diversify Your Portfolio?

Go look up the investment strategies of the big university endowments. Yale, Harvard etc. See how they diversify, see how it affected their performance in 2001, 2002. E.g. for Yale, goto http://www.yale.edu/investments/ (In the 2006 report, check pages 8 and 9 on the pros/cons of diversification)

Berkshire Hathaway Loads Up On Financial Stocks

You quoted a China fund that returned 50% and claim Buffet was unable to beat it. Are you really that mentally limited? How much of that funds return comes from the fact that China stocks are up 300% over the last couple of years and how much comes from actual stock picking and management skill...

Berkshire Hathaway Loads Up On Financial Stocks

Great. Twelve months worth of track record of writing naked puts during a bull market? Buffet is going to be shaking. You're lucky you started in 2006 and not in 2001 or 2002.

    Burnett SLAPS Cramer Down!

Jesus this Cramer guy is so embarrassing. Did this guy ever talk to a woman before? It feels like he's trying to ask her out for a date but he just can't find the right words and it keeps getting worse and worse.

    This market is WEAK!!!

Sure did, but what's first, the egg or the chicken? Did the Fed react to commercial paper market and interbank lending dislocations or did they react to the SP500 being down 10% from it's intraday high and being flat YTD?
