    yen carry

Exactly. Also, once the yield differential JPY vs G10 is gone (if ever) then there will likely be a new low interest currency. Yield differentials happen because of local economies and political reasons and thus are bound to stay for the time being.

    Marc Cuban on Day Trading

I agree. He should stick to areas he has actual expertise on. I don't think he has a track record in day trading so he should shup up about it.

I think the sequel is just in pre-production stages right now. Shooting hasn't even begun. Cinematic release is probably a minimum of 18-24 months away. Can't wait!

    How'd you do in August

You were laughing numerous times about people that average 20% a year running your mouth how you easily make 8% a month writing naked options with "little risk" and these investors are just hot air. About time reality catching up with you. Buffet and Pabrai are still idiots though right and...

    Shorting closed end funds

Really hard to compare both, they serve different purposes. If your goal is equity/bond exposure combined with monthly dividends then CEFs can do the job, at a discount to NAV which can serve as a margin of safety. Most ETFs do not pay (big) monthly dividends but they almost always trade very...

    Shorting closed end funds

Closed-ended funds are NOT ETFs. They're a set of investment vehicles usually designed for yield, mainly holding equities and bonds. See www.cefa.com. ETFs usually do not trade at discounts to NAV (thanks to arbitrage), many CEFs usually do due to the fact they're closed-ended.

    Shorting closed end funds

I can short most of them at IB. Some of the tiny capitalization ones are hard to borrow. Watch out, many CEFs pay big dividends that you have to pay being short.

    Is the worst over?

The stock market doesn't care how good or bad you or me think the economy is doing. For all I know housing could completely goto hell and this market can still make new highs (and vice versa). Looking at your local economy micro level and extrapolating that into global macro equity direction is...
