UK:Independent commission to consider breaking up of big banks...

There's no way they can be that stupid. You can't raise taxes and fees and legislate new offerings to improve the marketplace goods and services. But it allows them the false pretense that they are "cracking down on evil bankers and getting even with fat cats" while magically avoiding the...

Liberals - what caused the problems with Greece?

What do you think caused these problems in Greece? How do you think they should solve them? And why would think your views have to fall within my "simplistic conservative/liberal taxonomy" in order to answer? Are there no problems with Greece in your "complex unlabeled taxonomy"?

Liberals - what caused the problems with Greece?

Tom B posted a pretty good thread about an article in the WaPo that explains a view from the right pretty well.

Liberals - what caused the problems with Greece?

The problems Greece face obviously have everything to do with political issues. Of the two main political schools of thought (in the US), one will tell you this sort of thing is the obvious and end result of the other's policies. Conservatives will claim that massive government, huge...

Liberals - what caused the problems with Greece?

Just wondering what the left blames the problems of Greece on. The "talking points" from the right are the same as always - big government, massive welfare, jaw dropping debt, etc. But what does the left think caused their problems? Bush/Cheney/Haliburton? Global warming? Didn't tax the...

Bundesbank, Bank of Italy, Bank of France confirm buying government bonds today

Ireland's a special case the other way. They're pretty used to being poor and their bubble has been deflating. IMO, it looks like Ireland will make corrections, Greece will fail. Portugal's pretty small. So the question becomes, what about the two big PIIGS? I dunno.

Bundesbank, Bank of Italy, Bank of France confirm buying government bonds today

The powers that be have shown they will do absolutely everything in their power to keep this bubble inflated and keep everybody spending more than they have. If there was any doubt about that, it's gone now. Time to print & spend money with both hands. May you live in interesting times...

L.A. Teacher Calls for Mexican Revolt in the U.S.

Your quandary stems from a fundamental mistake. You wonder how lefties keep asking for the same things that keep failing. Your false assumption is that the liberals regard the misery and poverty caused by big government socialism as a failure. They absolutely do not. It is a success in their...

EU to Set Up Fund to Prevent Spread of Greek Crisis

LOL. Put a fork in it, this thing is done. The Greek default is all but guaranteed. Secret Plan! LMAO! They really think most of the planet is freakin' retarded. HTF do you go in front of people and say "secret plan" with a straight face? But it came from the French President, so...

Field trip for black students only sparks controversy at Ann Arbor elementary school

I wonder what he would say if some school organizied a field trip for white kids only. I bet he'd have a much stronger and completely different opinion. For people like this, it's all about race.

Germans vote DECISIVELY for Greek Bailout

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100507/ap_on_bi_ge/eu_germany_greece_financial_crisis 390 to 72. 84.4% voted for it. Yeah, I know it's just the lower house, the point is the huge margin. I don't know German politics at all, but you couldn't get 85% of the US Congress to agree on anything...

PUT options liquidated at worst possible prices

Same here. I wouldn't expect IB to change course and own up to a mistake. Write it down as a lesson learned or go to arb if there's enough coin involved.
