Worthwhile Things To Do With Fairly Good Internet Connection

Not available in my building, and I wouldn’t pay for it if it was. I was fine with my old Fios at 25/25 as long as it’s stable.

    personal back-testing setup

I'm not sure 128GB RAM is necessary or the 4TB hard drive. I would go with a 500GB SSD drive for the OS and programs and a HD for extra storage. I've built about 10 machine in 15 years using newegg.com. If you do that, double check to make sure components are compatible. I have called Intel...

    Stop Loss on Options

Yes. I think that ATM or just ITM calls or puts as a stock replacement can work well. I would stick with liquid options and avoid those with no paper and wide spreads. I would avoid way OTM options for a buy and hold. Nothing hurts more that the stock going up and your calls going down.

    Stop Loss on Options

IMO, never ever, ever use stop or stop limit orders with options. You can get very bad executions on the open, close and during times of stress or system issues at the exchanges. Never ever! This is coming from an X-Market Maker. Not even in liquid options with tight spreads.

    Apple special dividend in 2018?

Why would it do that? Any non-regular dividend are adjusted with the options by the OCC.

Is it bad risk management practice to rely only on one broker?

I was my understanding that MFG was the worst, as it took time to get their money back vs being moved to another broker in a few days, because money was taken from the futures accounts. https://dealbook.nytimes.com/2013/11/05/mf-global-customers-will-recover-all-they-lost/...

What exactly is order flow? Is it time-and-sales information?

Not that simple. Wide spreads can also mean little or no volume. Little or no limit orders on the book to hedge with. Basically more risk, so wider spreads. I'd rather be a MM in options that trade in nickels with volume than options with wide spreads that never trade. Getting back to the...

Is it bad risk management practice to rely only on one broker?

But did any one at LB that was a customer lose any money? I'm not aware of any that did, even over the SIPC limits. In fact, and I could be wrong, I'm not aware of any brokerage accounts protected by SIPC that lost any money at any time in the last 35 years even over the SIPC limits. Of course...

Worthwhile Things To Do With Fairly Good Internet Connection

I pay for 200 Mbps but this is what I get. Only matters while downloading big files and streaming video. My DVR would not work without it.

What exactly is order flow? Is it time-and-sales information?

Order flow is generally referred to customer orders that a broker can trade against or take the other side of your trade. The reality is that without market makers making two sided markets, there are not enough bids and offers from the "public" all the time to provide depth and liquidity. That...

Is it bad risk management practice to rely only on one broker?

As an Investor, I don't see it as a big deal. As a trader that depends on income from trading or trades often, it makes sense to have a back up account as system issues can and do happen to every broker.

Good to have a plan. For those that don’t like stop orders, an ITM option is a good choice, especially with vol this low. Of course the option is on the bigger contract but you can adjust you size to meet your needs. Good luck.

I'll try to bring the thread back in line. What is your target? Did you set a stop? Where would you add or is the 1 lot your limit? Bob

You can place two orders, then tag them as OCO. When one executes, the other will cancel. https://www.sterlingtradingtech.com/support-files/RoboHelp/Sterling_Trader_Pro.htm

    Mutual Fund vs. ETF

Risk based haircut. For customers there is PM but not all securities are PM eligible and not all baskets are provided offsets. None of this has anything to do with the question asked.

    Mutual Fund vs. ETF

I assume to implement this arb you have to be a broker dealer since that restriction is for BDs not customers.
