Bank borrowing from ECB is out of control

Interestingly, the EWG (Germany ETF) and EWP (Spain ETF) are basically down the same 22/23% this year. Not much difference there (yet). Just UK is lagging badly (EWU) but that maybe also currency related if the pound was relatively weaker vs. the USD than the EUR was (not sure about that).

CNBC's Ron Insana closing his Fund of Hedge Funds

1.5 + 20% is certainly on the high side for a FoF, I agree. 1 + 10% is probably more of a standard.

CNBC's Ron Insana closing his Fund of Hedge Funds

You fail to understand that sufficient diversification is of importance when investing in hedge funds. Many funds have a minimum investment of $250,000 - $500,000 or even up to $1m, or they're even closed to new money. Let's assume you were one of those extremely intelligent, ultra high net...

CNBC's Ron Insana closing his Fund of Hedge Funds

That's half of the story. The breaking point seems to be that the likelihood of him raising $500m in the current environment - combined with his lackluster 12 month track record he compiled - is pretty much zero. That would leave him charging his 1% on his $100m (1m a year) without performance...

Great thread, excellent entertainment. Whenever I read 'GET THE HELL OUT' in the thread titles I know it will always be popcorn time.

Are naked puts really this safe????

Yup, they're all idiots. Just go and take their money, all these simpletons are giving it away for free. Just gotta have the balls to hit their OTM bids until they're all gone. And then you blow up.

Are naked puts really this safe????

You see, with your theory of 'trading around the position', why would you sell the puts at all? If you think you can foresee the market direction and successfully trade around major market swings, why not simply trade the underlying outright? Why sell puts in the first place? I sell options...

Are naked puts really this safe????

You fail to answer the question on what to do if your sell stop for the underlying is hit and then it rallies in the opposite direction. Shorting the underlying serves only as 'protection' for a naked put position as long as the underlying keeps tanking without retracements. Unfortunately, when...

Are naked puts really this safe????

So now ES reached 1230, your stop was triggered. You're now short 1 x 1220 put and short 1 ES @ 1230. And now the next day ES rallies 30 points to 1260. What do you do? Close the future and take the 30 point loss? And what if it drops back to 1230 then afterwards? Short ES again?

Are naked puts really this safe????

    a) Once it approaches the strike, the price won't be 3 but rather something like 30. He sold it for 2 and he buys it back at 30. Taking a loss 15 times the size of the potential gain isn't exactly a favorable risk/reward setup. b) His theory assumes that markets move downward in a controlled...

    any day trading Hedge Funds?

Wrong. Check your info. Cramer never blew up with his fund. He had a steep drawdown of something like 35% and redemptions coming in left and right in Sept/Oct 1998. Allegedly, his fund recovered by early 1999.

Once in a Lifetime - American Consumers' Dealers No Longer Dealing Dope (Credit)?

FRE and FNM shareholders lost 90% of their capital. Is Bernanke giving shareholders their money back? I didn't think so. Regarding commodities, I have no idea if the bull market is over. I'd think a lot depends on how badly India, China and other emerging markets will suffer from tighter...
