Interesting. What kind of system are you using? A statistical one of some sort? I think everyone is a bit cautious shorting this market. Regardless, I think we'll have enough time to join the short side when the next sell comes, so not trying to pick a top in advance.

Cool. I'm thinking if we can take out last week's high at 3065.50, we'll most likely trade all the way up to 3100/3130. For now, the market is in bull-mode until proven otherwise. IMO.

No. Not on this stuff. And I'm not taking any positions here for a weekly play either. Just thinking out loud how I could see the next week(s) play out and leaning towards a sell from here starting some time this week.

Some possible scenarios/trajectories for the coming week. I'm betting on a variation of 2 or 3. If we can make one final push up to 3100/3130 or so before rolling over, 2860 might be pushing it this week. So maybe not before next week. The last few Monday's been fairly bullish. The third...

Did anyone make a lot of money this year? This trader said he made over a million from 50k...

Fooled by randomness? Anyone making that kind of return is likely to a) use very high leverage b) be very lucky With a large enough distribution of traders that's bound to happen and what's eventually likely to happen is that he loses it all if he continues putting his money at risk. You...

    Joining the CME gang

Thanks. Would you mind sharing how much you typically risk per any given trade? Friday is for example a day where one could have made a windfall profit holding a huge amount of long contracts through considerable heat, but could have easily led to a margin call if it went the other way. I'm...

I suppose. I have no problems understanding why the 50 % retrace works well quite often as markets by their very nature retraces. 50 % is easily programmed, identified and watched by many. I have no experience with the other esoteric Fibonacci levels/projections as it seems too...

Great results, @hilmy83. It seems like you had approximately a 190 % gain on your capital this month. Did you take on a lot of open risk to achieve this or did your trading simply improve tremendously? I don't mean to sound critical, but I do remember that day where you lost approximately 80...

Does the why really matter? I don't know the why to be honest. Just like there's other exploitable patterns I can't say for sure why play out. Generally, it's my experience that people or institutions who actually do research and find something useful don't see a purpose of sharing it...

On the subject of gaps: We now have two consecutive weekly + gaps were either weren't (completely) filled. As far as I can see this is unprecedented over the last 15 years. If anyone find that I'm wrong - please correct me. Not only that, but the strength of the weekly open is very rare too...

Does anybody trade ES using tick charts?

Apparently, I made a thread about time vs price driven charts back in the day. Here's two pictures from that thread highlighting the difference between time vs volume during heightened volatility. There were quite a few long 1-minute bars yesterday, too.

There's a lot to be said about gaps - both intraday and long term. Some type of gaps are more likely to fill than others and some may only receive a partial fill. Some are filled the same day while some are filled the next day or later on. Some are left behind for good. There's plenty of people...

Do you use Trailing stops, hard stops or both?

I always use hard stops and I aim to never use more than 5 point stops. Ideally less. Largest stop out this week was 4,25 points. The times I use 10 point stops I tend to regret it, so I try to avoid that. I tend to trail aggressively as price close in on my target and often use it to exit. I...

We will all know in the fullness of time. ;) Even a strong bull market retraces. Always tough to bet against the FED, The Donald and an abundance of cheap money, but I certainly wouldn't be surprised to see us trade down to 2680 in the nearby future, i.e., within the next 1-2 weeks. Might have...

Well, he's spooked the markets before, but that there was a decent clue for todays outcome. I assume Trump is a bit more stressed now than earlier this year with regards to the upcoming election, so most likely we should expect him to talk up the markets as much as he possibly can moving...
