is it better to daytrade or swing trade

Interesting how in this thread there are members who went from swing trading to day trading and also the other way around. Generally, I think day trading is the most difficult form for trading for a myriad of reasons. For one, the R/R is generally lower than in swing trading and you will also...

    ES Journal - 2023/2024

So far, only a pullback, but I imagine there must be plenty of bag holders who rushed in at the highs now. This market keeps doing what it's been doing for the last few years now, i.e., luring people in at highs and lows.

    NT8 Algo - trying again

Maybe you could reach out to @RedDuke. If I'm not mistaken, he runs automated strategies on NT8 in a professional capacity and have expressed great satisfaction with NT8. I don't use NT8 for automated strategies, but I have some experience hiring programmers. Generally, it's better to pay up...

    Picking daily direction?

If you could know the main move for the next day - why wouldn't you want to know that? Only if you can't accurately predict. If you could predict with some degree of accuracy, obviously that's an edge. The question is of course if one needs to predict or can simply succeed by following the...

    Picking daily direction?

That's like asking for the Holy Grail or the Keys to the Kingdom. I imagine if anyone holds such knowledge he's not going to share it publicly. If you were to pursue this path, I'd suggest first compiling statistics and metrics of your chosen market and see what answers you can find through...

    Interesting. Thanks for sharing that.

    ES Journal - 2023/2024

Not the worst action lately, though. Did you do any more testing on NQ, yet? + 22.50 off the lows on ES = $1125. + 107.00 off the lows on NQ = $2140. Plenty of juice. :)

    ES Journal - 2023/2024

4220 tagged. :) Would normally expect this to lose steam in this area here, but NQ is shifting back into insane mode, so who knows.

    ES Journal - 2023/2024

Shallow pullback. Looks like 4220 from here. Interesting to see if we close above or below Friday's high.

    ES Journal - 2023/2024

Weakness early in the week have been a pattern lately. ES 4200 and NQ gap fill from last Friday here. Maybe enough for a bounce.

Which markets or instruments are you trading?

Yes. However, as the numbers I computed show, the daily high/low range and the sum of the major swings within the day is still considerably greater with NQ versus ES, so, assuming a trader could capture the same swings/range on NQ with roughly the same risk, it's a bigger pay day for a...

Which markets or instruments are you trading?

It's possible. I could take a look later and see what shows up.

Which markets or instruments are you trading?

The idea was simply to make an equal comparison between the two indices within the same interval looking at the same metrics. My statistical model isn't really set up for the ETH session, but I would imagine similar results with ES vs NQ during that period as well?

Did you have naive trader cloud cuckoo land expectations

Had me a good belly laugh here. :)

Which markets or instruments are you trading?

Thanks for sharing, toucan. Maybe I'll find it worthwhile to look into those commodities at some point in the future. For now, I'm sticking with that I know, and my assumption is that the base methodology I use for ES should be easily adapted to NQ, but I'm doing some testing first of course...

Headed out. Just making a note that I'll have to reply tomorrow in case I forget.

    ES Journal - 2023/2024

How about keeping your calm and putting forth your disagreements in a civil tone? I don't see why so many on ET needs to put each other down by every post they make. Disagreement and discussion is good. Name calling and a condescending attitude is not.

Which markets or instruments are you trading?

Would be interesting if you had any more detailed comments about these markets. Do you trade them using the same base methodology or do you need to utilize different strategies for each market? No equity indices? Thanks.

Which markets or instruments are you trading?

You're welcome. Interesting. Yes, but regarding the timing of the major swings, I haven't found anything illuminating yet, although I'll admit that I can give it plenty more time and study. If you consider the timings of the day low/day high, though, there are statistical significant values...

Is it important to define your edge mathematically? If so, how do you go about finding one?

Monte Carlo simulation in Excel. The dotted arrow is your expectancy and the other series are simulations ran based on those probabilities. I'm sure there are better platforms that will generate it for you online these days. Any trader that's trading for profit needs to understand the equation...
