German Ifo business-climate index posts sharp rise in July to 106.2

Uncle Ben's money has nothing to do with it... The Chinese had a lot to begin with and their stimulus was a lot larger than anything Uncle Ben could dream of. It's their money that they're finally spending on Porsches etc, instead of squirreling it away for a rainy day. This is the correction...

    Hungary For More?

My friend, I don't need the details and the media. I am stating an (moderately) informed view of mine. Specifically, I would like to reiterate that there is nothing wrong with Poland, Slovakia and the Czech Republic.

    EU bank stress test

Makes sense... From the conversations I have had, it seems the point of the exercise is mainly to make Spain look OK and take the heat off the sovereign. So I'd guess they make the Cajas look good at the expense of the Landesbanken (which are dead anyways). What that does to the mkt, I have...

    EU bank stress test

We'll see... FWIW, I have heard all sorts of speculation about how transparent they will be. Most importantly, my understanding is that they couldn't figure out the answer to the question themselves. Apparently, the finance ministers had a call today to decide what to disclose and how. I am...

NP, if you like I can either attach the chart with the two indices denominated in gold or the spreadsheet with the data.

    Fine wine as investment?

That's hardly a coincidence... It's called excess leverage and it shows up in all asset classes. A rising tide lifts all boats, so to speak.

Why? What are you expecting out of the stress test, atticus?

    Fine wine as investment?

Huh? I should note that the chart is a wee bit misleading (maybe that's what you mean?), as the Liv-ex 100 is denominated in GBP, rather than USD. New attachment should have both series USD-denominated. Best would be returns, I suppose, but I can't be bovvered.

how do you construct a carry-adjusted time series for backtest FX?

As mentioned in your other trade, you can trade either, as they're the same series. You just have to make sure you trade the one, where the actual carry you get is close to what you used when constructing the time series. That's assuming you don't have any other constraints, such as funding...

How do you backtest FX strategies?

The two series are the same... Trade the one that's consistent with the carry assumptions that you're using to construct the series.
