Easy way to double the net worth of 60% of all US households

Maybe it's all about getting older and wiser... I am a big fan of this here quote (regardless of whether Churchill ever said it or not): “If you're not a liberal at twenty you have no heart, if you're not a conservative at forty, you have no brain.”

Well, even if what you say is true and the system excessively favors the wealthy, there can only be a relatively small number of wealthy people. Given that decisions in a democracy are made by a larger majority of non-wealthy people, it all ends up balancing itself out, innit? As to reducing...

Or, alternatively, the powerful minority in question could actually be right... Anyways, I personally don't think some sort of wealth redistribution by decree to address inequalities would make things better. And I personally see the risk of it making things a lot worse.

Easy way to double the net worth of 60% of all US households

What exactly am I supposed to be digging myself out of? As far as I am aware, I have never made any categorical statements, especially regarding "conspiracy theories". At any rate, there's really no point having a discussion, since, clearly, you're not willing to engage in a conversation. I...

Easy way to double the net worth of 60% of all US households

Yes, there's all sorts of compelling evidence that some degree of redistribution (in the form of taxes, for example) is necessary. The question is how do you determine the extent of this "adjustment"? Who is going to decide what additional redistribution is, to use your terminology, "good...

Easy way to double the net worth of 60% of all US households

There are many bad things out there. The trick is to not replace them with things that end up being infinitely worse.

My post, to which you volunteered a response, contained a couple of questions. You chose not to answer them, which I found a little unhelpful. I never said that you said that the Fed had a political affiliation (in fact, you stated the opposite), so I am not trying to read your mind. As to...

Easy way to double the net worth of 60% of all US households

Maverick, firstly, thank you for not answering my questions... Secondly, I didn't call Pelosi "reasonable". Thirdly, I didn't know that you thought you possessed mind-reading capabilities. As it happens, it appears you don't. The argument you have given above is certainly NOT my argument...

Easy way to double the net worth of 60% of all US households

Well, it's reasonably obvious, innit? Let me illustrate by using an analogy... Nancy Pelosi is a reasonably senior lawmaker in the US government. Her personal views on guns and gun control are well known and openly stated, if I am not mistaken. According to the logic you're applying, am I...

Educate me: What's a good way to calculate risk? What about Sharpe?

VaR is, in fact, the most common approach that allows you to consistently calculate a measure of "riskiness" for a given portfolio of potentially diverse assets (incl private equity and whatever other random crap you might have). There are many flavours of VaR out there.

While I am certain that you'll happily disregard it, please note the disclaimer that Plosser makes in his speech. You can watch it online, btw. He is not expressing the view of the Federal Reserve system or the Board, but rather his personal views. Just to be clear.

which greek has the most influence on an option's price?

The title of your post is a bit misleading. What you have isn't "an option", but rather a bunch of options. For a bunch of options, you could have all sorts of greeks, with all sorts of different relative significance.

    Futures spread ratios and multipliers

The CME site has a lot of info. For instance, this: http://www.cmegroup.com/trading/interest-rates/files/Eurodollar_Futures_Interest_Rate_Building_Blocks.pdf

    Eurodollar spreading

That's a bit harder, given what's priced in. There are things you could do in options, I suppose, but there's definitely going to be more risks and complications with those.

    Eurodollar spreading

Well, let's say you believe Bill Gross and you're convinced that rates won't rise until 2016 or smth... You could just buy, I dunno, some Sep15 contracts and hold them until Sep 2015. Or something similar with FedFunds, which would be cleaner.

    Eurodollar spreading

It depends on your style, really... To be able to do the full array of stuff, you do need access to some prop-like tools, in Europe or US. If you just wanna do very basic things, you can do them in a retail context.

    Worst wall street movie ever?

I agree... I was expecting the plot to make sense and it didn't. Liked the characters, though.

    Eurodollar spreading

Fly and condors, yes... As to the outright long trade, you can think of it as a terminal rate bet. So, let's say you bot U6 Eurodollars. If by the end of 2016 rates are still at 0, you stand to make a lot of money (if we forget about mtm volatility).

How to convert implied volatility into a single day move

I dunno abt other assets, but people in my neck of the woods use a notion of "daily breakeven", which is just the annual vol divided by sqrt(252).

    Eurodollar spreading

You can, except that rates might actually rise (or at least the mkt might think so).
