new short sale rules next week?

From the Yahoo story: "Under pressure from Congress, the SEC proposed a number of measures last year to rein in short selling. Although the activity is a legitimate form of investing, lawmakers and bank executives blamed short selling for contributing to the downfall of now-defunct investment...

    Covered Calls?

Making 3+ pct a month with covered calls is VERY easy if you ignore the losses on the stocks. It's called Monkey Math! :D

POLL: If you were improving your method, would you seek more setups or fewer of them?

No offense but your perspective is rather myopic. The number of trades I make is inconsequential. So is the amount of commission I pay as are the trading stats (win/loss ratio, avg profit per trade, etc.). All I care about is a better bottom line. How I get there is irrelevant to me.

POLL: If you were improving your method, would you seek more setups or fewer of them?

The goal is to increase account value. Does it really matter how many trades it takes to get there?

why do peopel try to trade for 35 or 20 bucks a day?

Learning a skill that has the potential to make one a lot of money is a waste of time? Yep, you're right. You don't get it.

why do people recommend covered calls.

Oh pulllease! The author of that drivel is the type who when you ask for the time, he tries to teach you how to build a watch.

why do people recommend covered calls.

Again, yes and no. Your assumption is based on the premise that the stock moves up and is exercised. If it moves up prior to expiration, the short call will be a drag on the return. If the UL reverses, you might not be assigned and might never see the return that the unencumbered long...

why do people recommend covered calls.

In a convoluted way, CC's are safer than NP's because margin on stock is 50% so CC's margin is a little less due to premium received. Margin on NP is approzimately 20% so you can blow yourself up 2-1/2 times as fast with NP's :D  :p

why do people recommend covered calls.

Well, yes and no. Calls appreciate as the underlying rises so prior to expiration, they slow the rate of gain (net delta of CC is < 1 )

    Wealthy Option Traders

I think a chat room's usefulness is for learning the ropes. Trying to piggyback someone's live calls w/o knowing what's going on is a recipe for disaster.

Reverse Call or Put Calendar Spreads--Who uses this strategy?

I've used em quite a bit for EA's a week or so before expiration except it's both sides and ratioed. The closer to expiration, the better since the long legs are throwaway money. Like all spreads, you have can take market prices or work them for better fills. I would avoid options with very...

why do people recommend covered calls.

There are situations where one might own the stock and sell the covered call at a later date. The "cash put away" is psychological. Interest earned is imbedded in the options. As for commissions, it could even be one transaction (short put expires) versus three (stock, call, and either...

    IB 2009 gain/loss summary reports a total mess !!

The numbers have added up all along - in going from an opening balance of -50.72 to a closing balance of -90.30 which becomes the next month's opening balance. One correction to your explanation is that as mentioned previously, 65.59 is not a credit. It is the amount of cash deducted from my...

    IB 2009 gain/loss summary reports a total mess !!

No that's backwards. If there was a credit, it was 39.58 because 65.59 was debited from the account. If I instead deducted the 39.58, my cash balance would not match (my daily spreadsheet and their daily statement), And what would that "credit" be from? It certainly wasn't interest on cash...

    IB 2009 gain/loss summary reports a total mess !!

At this point, I have no clue. One month last year I had 31 open short positions. Since they were usually open for more than one day, there were multiple debits per position (one line charge per day per position). So I had 140 debit lines for a "Non-Direct Hard to Borrow" total of -$105.17...

    IB 2009 gain/loss summary reports a total mess !!

Thanks for the suggestion however, but yes, I have it enabled. I also have a template set up so that I can download an interest accrual report with breakdowns per issue for any time period desired. There are two problems I can't fathom. My monthly borrow charges add up to a lot more than...
