    Bear Stearns' Bad Bet

The primary skill of the new Ivy League ex IB HF Manager seems to be fund raising i.e. marketing not trading. If you were inventing gains and then people ask for their money back it gets kind of tricky coz the money is not really there, you know, like a Ponzi scheme. Seems that is what is...

    Bear Stearns' Bad Bet

Positive carry. Borrow as much as you can at 5% buy bonds paying 6.5%. Works until it doesn't. Finance 101 would suggest that they check if 1.5% was enough of a spread to comensate for the risk - which it wasn't.

When Does A Stock Market Go Down?

Makes me think of the Grand Slam bomb used by the RAF in ww2. Dropped from a great height and exploded 100 ft under the ground. Nothing happened for a few minutes and then the bridge or whatever that appeared unhamed collapsed as the earth subsided into the huge cavern created underground (think...

Old Fart Bubble thoughts...no, not gas, China. :)

A bubble is when people from all flelds leave their jobs to make a living speculating in a market e.g. Daytrading 1999, housing in US. The markets are just not that easy except for a brief period near the top.
