Is Increased Volatility a Sign of a Bear Market?

If you look at a volume profile of a market that is getting volatile you will see that it is being pushed to each last known pool of liquidity as the market as a whole or big players (who can't just hit the bid) try to get out by pushing the market to places where there was liquidity and...

    Comments on Copper?

Think of washing machines, many many more Chinese households will have one BUT with containers going back empty and labour at $1 a day it might become cheaper to unwind and the rewind the coils from discarded US washing machines.

    Comments on Copper?

I was talking about transmission lines but it looks like my info is outdated and substitution for Aluminium has already taken place then - a function of price not performance I would think.

New Year Fast Approaching: Bernanke = 2007 Jackass of the Year

He is the idiot schoolmaster, mumbling into his beard whenever inflation is mentioned. He says inflation is 2% and the weak dollar won't affect Amreicans because they buy their [imported] goods in dollars. I mean there is something seriously wrong when that is the level at which the masses...

    New HD partitioning woes

As I understand it you have to partition on installation and can't create a partition afterwards ( I looked at this a while back and remeber the greying out). I also remember there was some issue with third party partition software, but maybe that was then, not now.

    Comments on Copper?

Was thinking the same thing. Is this the next one which we can short from a near peak? Surprisingly large amount of global copper consumption goes into US housing. Much of China demand is actually US consumer demand, although I gather the stories about China consumption related to power...

    Feds fears come true today-READ

They will cut in December ahead of the Wall St cartel reporting. When interest rates go down, toxic waste prices go up. Keep buying them more time.

Is IB's data stream down again?

You can get the default layout by designating a folder other than c: JTS on the login box when you log in. Also When I open in the Asian morning I get it with no problem. After I re log in after the US midnight shut down I get the no tools no quotes. IB are apparently aware of the problem but...

    Uncorrelated trades

What might look like diversified positions could be all one big trade. Think we should pool knowledge on possible uncorrelated trades out there. e.g Long Gold or Long Crude is really just a short dollar position as are many things out there. Other times less simple e.g. copper is going up...

    USD situation getting serious

The US has a Fed president who stated at a recent Senatorial hearing that inflation was 2%. Typical academic, if it says that in writing then it must be so. How can you have this idiot schoolmaster in charge at a time like this, come to think of it, how can you have the chimp in overall charge?

Tiger's Robertson Sees 'Doozy of a Recession'

So we have had the 25BP cut that did nothing. Should we short now or wait until the 100BP cut between FOMC meetings? What other ammunition does Fed/Paulson have? None it seems. Fed shot it's load and nothing happened. Oh yeah, and it seems I-Banks balance sheets are you know, kinda a little...

    abolish the Federal Reserve?

If the Fed has a Chairman who states that inflation is 2% at a recent Senate hearing then that is a case for abolition on it's own.

Finally some data: About 17% of losses from subprime booked so far...

Thanks. I think 20% is conservative. I am not sure that a direct comparison can be made but in the Thai 97 crisis bank total NPL's (much of which was plain vanilla property based lending) peaked at 70%. Even this is suspect as banks lent customers money to pay and installment and thus convert a...

Fed will announce what at 2:15pm Wed?

http://www.markit.com/information/products/abx/history_graphs.html Don't rule out a cut as an attempt to stave off insolvency in Banks holding this stuff. Valuations are lower than in Aug or Sept. You didn't think it was about the greater good did you?
