How many people have lost during trading?

"It is fortunate for Wall Street as an institution that a small minority of people can trade successfully and that many others think they can. The accepted view holds that stock trading is like anything else; i.e., with intelligence and application, or with good professional guidance, profits...

Time to start building China shorts

I must be the only person in the world who doesn't believe the China market will NOT be held up at any cost for the Olympics. I must be the only person in the world who thinks it is big trader (dahu) or govt propaganda put out to keep the sanhu (small fry) invested so they don't sell out in...

    Catastrophic HDD Failure

HDD failure seems to be the commonest failure. Learned the hard way. Backups on backups now, offsite backup, even have key files needed to get me up and running again on a thumbdrive.

Fisher Says Credit Markets May Not Force Fed to Act

``I would discourage you from thinking that simply because of a significant action in the credit markets, like we had yesterday, that suddenly we're going to have an Open Market Committee meeting, and that suddenly we're going to move Fed funds rates in response,'' Fisher said. ``It doesn't work...

    CFC FBI probe

Mozillo will be the token prosecution like Lay or Denis K, everyone else on Wall St will continue as before, barely glancing up from the trough if he is found guilty and sentenced. They will find another area that has not been regulated yet and push that.

Coz they are not keeping it on THEIR balance sheet but offloading it onto someone who buys it coz it has a AAA rating. Seems CFC made almost as much from fees as it would from keeping a sound loan on its balance sheet.

Too much Pessimism and too many shorts.

Many hedge funds may have reversed from long to short, but I think you will find that a lot of institutions go in part to cash rather than short. Recent Merrill Lynch survey indicates that mutual fund cash levels are at highs not seen for years. Cash levels, not shorts. Hedge funds make up most...

Too much Pessimism and too many shorts.

I think we have a lot more hedge fund deleveraging to come as banks call in their loans, including prime broker loans. Probably seen as the riskiest. If banks can call in loans that shut down viable real businesses they are not going to baulk at hedge funds. Could be moves to the upside as HF's...
