    Options bought or sold?

Even if you could discern whether the options were bot or sold, what good would it do you? One could buy calls if bullish. One could also buy calls to hedge short stock (bearish).

Day trading as a living should be impossible

The problem with this is that the intraday moves aren't linear. The are multiple reversals and you only know the results in hindsight. You may be up 1/2 a pct then down 2 pct before being up 1 pct and that may occur multiple times. Tick by tick data is very different than 6% intraday ranges...

Day trading as a living should be impossible

How do you know you're going to be on the right side of an intraday move of up to 6%? Just because it's there doesn't mean it's easy to nab. Are you insane? No. But if you think that you can paper trade for a few months and then regularly generate a monthly return of 8-10% with real money...

What to do about deep ITM RIG call

What's a good strategy for this situation depends on your outlook for RIG and your fear and greed :) You can close it, collar it, buy an ATM put and turn it into a straddle, sell calls against it, roll it up a few strikes, etc. It all depends on what risk graph appeals to you. AFAIK, the...

What to do about deep ITM RIG call

This is the easy question. If your inclination is to write covered calls, instead, rather than giving up some time premium, incurring extra commissions, and tying up more margin, just write the call against it, creating a spread.

    option trading

It's sorta like chess versus checkers :) If you can trade stocks successfully, don't bother with options.

    Option question.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with writing an OTM Jan call at Dec expiration as long as you're still neutral to bullish at that time. Since JPM has a moderate IV, a 1 month OTM calls won't bring in a lot of premium. Most of your reward will come from price increase to the OTM strike...

THOR - Severe Skew Bend Yields Vol Scalp

THOR has Holland Tunnel wide B/A spreads. Your post may look better but the option positions don't :) FWIW, if you're going to screen a database that provides and IV based on the average of the B/A then you might want to bump up the search criteria a tad because IRL, attainable positions...

    Option question.

As MTE mentioned, it's a diagonal spread. And again, they would not liquidate the long Jan call unless the short stock assignment resulted in a margin violation. Then all bets are off because you either satisfy the margin call or they indiscriminately sell off holdings until the margin...

How many adjustments you prepare to make for an options-trade?

Without a doubt, that's the case. You can layer on more positions but push comes to shove, the market still has to cooperate. An example off the top of my head... Suppose you have an OTM calendar and the underlying drops just into the money quickly. Because time decay hasn't had a chance...

How many adjustments you prepare to make for an options-trade?

MTE, There's nothing wrong with your thoughts but I don't think that it's that black and white. There are a myriad of reasons for initiating a trade and adjustments can reflect a changing opinion (hope?). Saying that an adjustment is just a way to avoid/delay psychological pain associated...

APOL - Calendar Spread in Play After Earnings Collapse

I took a look at this late this afternoon and the premium cost for the Nov/Dec calendar straddle was larger. You must have moved the market! Just curious... Is your program searching/calculating the IV of the bid for the options sold and for the ask of the options bot or is it using...

    how to mine data?

Rather than waste time looking at stocks that have already made their move, consider looking for those that might be about to make their move ---> earnings annnouncements <--- then hop on for some of the ride :)
