Does anyone know why gold has gone up so much in the few days?

If you are that young to remember 1880's I think you are a big winner, and we wish you another century of good life!:)

Better: Why not choose/waitfor the moment of highest benefit?

    Next Oil all time high

Are you more bullish on Oil than on Gold? If you are, do you know that you might also have implicitely predicted the end of the down turn in the silent economic depression?

Why Many So Pessimistic About Market? Is Economic Outlook the Reason?

Shortie is an outstanding contributor here at ET. It is unacceptable that a good ET member be repeatedly insulted while starting good threads. I call on the mods to act by at least editing this thread.

Why Many So Pessimistic About Market? Is Economic Outlook the Reason?

It is not about whether there would be a deal, but rather about the details of the deal--- the devil(risk/reward) is in the details!

    Debt Ceiling and Default

    1. China/etc are been paid with a lower-valued dollar-- It was in the benefit of the US to have issued those past loans, as long as the inflation rate is higher than the interest rate. 2. Your argument about inflation due to printing dollars, and taxation to fight it, is a circular...

    Volatility

    1. The job of a trader is to know WHEN. What is your final answer on Gold going forward as of the close today? 2. Why do you separate the position in two when you can have it in one piece (a call), with less trading commish and one less spread to pay?

If You R Not Sh*tting Your Pants Then

It works if long trend of both GLD and SPY are up? What if there is a reversal in one of them? (We know the answer if there is a reversal in both :D ). If there is a reversal in one of them, the results would depend on the proportions (like in a sauce)? Noddyboy is very very good! He is...

    Short CHF vs. Short Gold?

GLD is at 155. If I believe that GLD sellers would be within say 0.50 from current price, what would be a good strategy if I were to trade it?

    Short CHF vs. Short Gold?

There is a lot of wisdom in what you wrote, and I thank you very much. I think I will focus on gold. If gold were to retreat, how does the implied volty of the GLD puts behave? Does it fall like the volty of SPY calls does when spy rises? If GLD put volty were to rise, it would be good, but...

    Buy gold buy more stocks

Hi Noddyboy: thanks for sharing! If there is a retreat, how would you detect whether it is just a retreat or a serious down leg? Those newspaper/etc articles and ads are not a good sign for the bull thesis, but I see your point.

Market will probably rally on Thursday because Moody "May" cut the US bond rating

Wouldn't a debt default cause stocks to rally?

In 2008, there was selling of assets, yet the dollar rose. Why do you think that a selling of assets necessarily mean that the proceeds would be leaving out? In addition an asset price retreat could be worldwide, and I do not see why the proceeds elsewhere could not be a source for a dollar...

Wouldn't a debt default cause stocks to rally?

Why would the above not lead to a rise in the dollar? (Sellers of USD-denominated assets are buyers of the dollar? A rise in interest rates would make cash dollars more "valuable"?).
