    No, the big reason is spreads. SPX and SPY are big with the "retail" crowd because you can trade calendars much easier. With ES most platforms will not let you trade calendars since different options are tied to different futures contracts. The other reason of course, most investment advisors...

    When you discount cash flows into the future, as you move further out in time, the present value of the cash flow approaches zero. Therefore, at some point you have fully discounted all the cash flows and every year after that the PV will be near zero. This was John Arnold's point.
