    summer to FORGET

Not the worst summer ever but a lot tougher than in '08 and '09 when there was much more volatility.

Stream Live Option quote and volume

As MTE mentioned, some brokers offer quote linkage to Excel. There are other sources as well, usually by subscription. Do a web search on "DDE + quotes" and ignore all of the Dover Downs Entertainment links :)

That's what I surmised after he asked me what IV collapse was :)

    50k trading account profits?

Don't get caught up in expectations. Most can only make what the market offers. In 08/09 the potentail was immense as the market collapsed and then soared. This year has been somewhat range bound. While I may be mocked for this, I trade not to lose and to beat MM rates. Doesn't sound...

Perhaps I misinterpreted your post. What kind of straddle are you talking about?

Gamma Scalping and Reverse Gamma Scalping

My suggestion about 25 vs 50 was in response to your first post that indicated that you would adjust when the portfolio's net delta becomes -50 or +50. I was not implying that you should use 25 or 50 delta options to make your adjustment. Fewer adustments does not necessarily mean greater...

Excel DDE connection to IB platform

I have a number of Excel spreadsheets for use during trading (approx 100 quotes each). I'm drawing a fair number of quotes in the platform so I can only use one at a time since two puts me over the available data limit. Some of the sheets load automatically when enabled. Others don't. I tried...

Why don't you just set a small burger stand, instead of daytrading?

Life is about choices. If you have an easier or an more emotionally rewarding way of bringing home more bacon then sitting in front of a quote machine all day sucks. Personally, I like the commute as well as going to K-Mart twice a year to buy some gym shorts so that I can double my work...

Gamma Scalping and Reverse Gamma Scalping

Tho I'm not familair with your underlyings nor have I reverse gamma scalped, I imagine that apart from UL movement risk that Donnap mentioned, it's not much different than GS-ing against long options - you have to get the IV right as well as the adjustment frequency and AFAIK both hit or miss...

    What could possibly go wrong

Margin and margin cushion are two different stories. Initial margin is 50%. IB's margin cushion is (equity minus maintenance margin) divided by liquidation value.

    What could possibly go wrong

Initial margin is 50% so being down there doesn't give you a lot of leeway.

    What could possibly go wrong

It depends on how you define "wrong". Getting wiped out is highly unlikely. On 50% margin, it would take a 50 % drop to wipe you out (premiums received would make it slightly more). Since that's unlikely to happen in any given day, your broker would liquidate your account at their margin...

    What could possibly go wrong

I don't know IB's margin limit parameters but I really doubt that they're interpreting which trades are risky. You either have the margin or you don't.

Best options for speculation - OTM, ATM or ITM?

    1) If you're at a deep discount broker, commissions should be a secondary consideration (or less). They're part of the cost of doing business and usually a fraction of the cost of the premium at risk. Worry about the underlying and the premium. 2) Risk isn't one dimensional. OTM options...

Why don't you just set a small burger stand, instead of daytrading?

Getting peanuts to lie? WTF are you talking about? Regardless, care to put your money where your mouth is? Would 10 years of tax returns be sufficient proof? Let's hear some lame assed excuses...

    expiration option behavior?

I realize that authors cherry pick successful examples for their theories. And I'll do the same with an example :) An ATM straddle on a 50 IV stock one day before exp might provide a premium 2% of the strike. That may not sound like much but it's going to be worthless in 24 hours. If Augen...
