If this is fund deleveraging, what happens upon stabilization?

All these quant guys (DE Shaw, RenTec Institutional, Tykhe etc.) will see massive redemptions from Fund of Funds who will get out on the next possible redemption date. This will be key IMO. What happens to these quant guys when the redemptions hit. Are they properly deleveraged already? Do they...

Oh boy, who said backtesting is flawless?

    GS Alpha fund down 26%

Will be interesting to watch if these seemingly random plus and minus 15% swings in many mid/small caps will continue when redemptions hit. August 15 was the date the Journal was looking at. This last week was nuts, looked like massive forced liquidations of quant long/short positions.

    F U Fed

Let me guess, a healthy correction would be the major indices tanking 0.5% each and every day like clockwork for a few weeks with zero retracements and no short covering rallies in between. Just like a bull market, just the other way around! Too bad it ain't that easy!!!

This is the best time 2 buy ever

Kinda sucks if one is out of capital to actually make use of that great buying opportunity due to lack to money management.

And they say there is no PPT

And all those Fridays with those 40 point ES drops in 5 mins of course don't count in that analysis.

    Lend

"Accredited Home Lenders surged on Friday after the private-equity firm Lone Star received regulatory approval to acquire the struggling subprime lender." It might be impossible for Lone Star to get out of the deal at this point and they have to go forward swallowing this dog of a bankrupt...

    Black Friday

I wouldn't want to be net short either. There were rumors earlier today the Fed might announce a cut today after the close. Not sure who's more scared, the bulls or the bears.

    Next sector(s) to short

I don't know about shorting, but I am looking for OIH (oil services) to get closer to 50 SMA next week and buy some deep in the money, couple months out puts.

Why is the market going up?

News means nothing. The price reaction to news is key.

Why is the market going up?

    People are buying/short covering.

    Too many bears?

If we manage to close in the green today we'd have an intraday reversal to the upside & a higher low with a higher high on the VIX. Just looking at technicals that constellation is a positive.

Small correction or the start of a bear market?

High-velocity sell-offs have historically (in the last couple decades) not signaled the start of bear markets. If this selling came at the end of a multi-year bear period I'd have a bias to say the worst is over and the last sellers got squeezed out of the market on massive volume. But here...

    CNBC...enough is enough fools....

You complained dozens of times how bad CNBC was and how you didn't find their commentary valuable. Dozens of times people suggested you stopped watching it. I guess nothing changed.

The economy is strong and getting stronger

    Too many bears?

Did you read the thread at all? We're talking about medium term position trades on the long side and "finding a bottom". So you're increasing your capital by guessing bottoms and going long in sell offs? Good luck to you!
