Yea continue beating legendary deep value investors that made hundreds of millions of Dollars in the markets with your put writing "strategy". You will come out on top, I have no doubt.

This is the best time 2 buy ever

I love this part the most, considering the VIX is on a multi year high and we're seeing record trading volume on all exchanges in the last couple weeks.

    Wtf Is Wrong With Ib??!!

It's amazing how many people rely on their broker (i.e. the company that you pay to deliver reliable execution of trades, nothing else!) to provide data and charting software FOR FREE. lmao.

    monster rally coming!!

SP500 up 60% over the last 5 years, for an annualized return of 9.85%. Hardly a monster rally. I would call this slightly above average compared to historical returns.

Interview with deep value investor Monish Pabrai

A $100,000 investment in Pabrai Funds at inception (on July 1, 1999) was worth $659,700 on Dec. 31, 2006. That's seven and a half years. The annualized return is 28.6% - that's net of his 25% performance fees. So the gross return is way up in the 35% area annualized, which is even more...

    GS Alpha fund down 26%

Goldman Sachs Launches L/S Fund By Emma Trincal, Senior Financial Correspondent | Thursday, August 09, 2007 NEW YORK (HedgeWorld.com)—Goldman Sachs & Co. is moving half of its New York-based prop desk team into asset management to run a newly created long/short hedge fund expected to...

    GS Alpha fund down 26%

Hedge Funds are usually incorporated offshore e.g. in the BVI or Bahamas and therefore are not liable to US taxes. This helps compounding returns. I do not know too much about the US tax system but I believe a taxable event only occurs when asking for a redemption from the fund and...

    GS Alpha fund down 26%

Nope, they're better on average: equity index like returns with way lower volatility of returns. Equities (historically) tend to deliver terrible risk adjusted returns: decent ROR% coupled with roller coaster like volatility.

    GS Alpha fund down 26%

It really seems Alpha's strategy has deep underlying difficulties. If they can't turn 2007 around this will be their 3rd consecutive year in the red, I don't think they can blame market conditions. I believe they returned 100% net of fees from 1999-2004 but I guess now it's time to call it a day...

    GS Alpha fund down 26%

Your criticism is missing the point. No hedge fund investor is interested in outperforming your simple buy and hold strategy. Outperformance is (almost) entirely irrelevant. Hedge Funds are measured by their ability to deliver risk adjusted returns. The typical HF investor is looking for a)...

    GS Alpha fund down 26%

lol What kind of analysis is this? There are around 10,000 hedge funds out there. There are always some down 20% in any given month and thanks to high watermarks they close shop. This happens all the time, this is business as usual. Just like public companies on exchanges are being delisted or...

Germany´s WESTLB with honest subprime exposure numbers

As Deutsche Bank's Hilmar Kopper would say.... "peanuts" :D

    GS Alpha fund down 26%

Of course they will reload, but with a lot less capital (after redemptions) and for some with way less leverage. The 800 pound gorillas deciding which strategies get capital and which don't... will be the Fund of Funds. I see many FOFs dropping negatively performing Quant RV Funds overnight...

    08-11-2007: Time to buy Goldman?

No?!?!?!? Why?!?!?!?! It seems The Boyz were smart and sold off all their junk products to their European counterparties: BNP Paribas, IKB Germany and WestLB!!! :D

    F U Fed

Hmm the $38 bln don't go into sub prime bonds, they offer short term loans to banks so the nation's leading banks continue clearing transactions among eachother at the FedFunds rate of 5.25% and not 6% (as they were Friday morning after the European fallout). Fed policy wants them to clear at...
