Which Hedgefunds are going out of business? SAC, citadel, TCI,and etc?

Big difference between trading a couple million (with very little market impact) or $2bln. When you look at hedge fund darling longs XTO, JRCC, ACI, X, MOS and dozens of others you see how liquidity in steep downward moves plays a big role. They are forced to liquidate to meet redemptions...

ECB's Trichet begging U.S. to pass rescue plan for the sake of global finance

Wow, what happened? I thought Dr. Trichet was such an ultra smart and astute 'banker' as all my ET friends have lectured me? Now he's panicking? http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601109&sid=aRJToi7NKwSQ&refer=home Oct. 1 (Bloomberg) -- European Central Bank President...

Which Hedgefunds are going out of business? SAC, citadel, TCI,and etc?

Renaissance runs more than one fund. Most likely, the SEC filings you see showing Renaissance holding individual stocks are holding for their "Institutional Equities Fund" which has produced less than stellar results. I believe it was barely flat last year, probably down 2008 YTD. AFAIK it is a...

What will Jim Cramer say tonight? PART II

Within a few short weeks, all banks - regardless of how 'safe' you might think they are - would be holding very few money in deposits as depositors see a total wipeout around every corner and will rather place everything they have in either T-Bills at 0% yield/gold or withdraw cash, thus...

What will Jim Cramer say tonight? PART II

I believe he also suggested the FDIC provides a type of insurance (at a premium) for wealthy individuals or corporate accounts, say $20, $50, $100m etc. in order to keep money in the deposit accounts and out of T-Bills.

Dow futures -200 ...bailout not reassuring

German secretary of finance Steinbrück was in the headlines just last week, attacking "anglo-saxon financial capitalism driven purely by greed" and praising "the more conservative European approach that largely shields the EUR zone from the crisis". Today, German mortgage bank and DAX component...

A Letter Against the Bailout Plan

When counterparty exposure goes through the financial system like a domino effect, then no matter if you gambled or not, you lose. Your assumption that only people that took huge risks get hurt is completely misplaced and very naive.

Effective Monday, stocks with market cap under $100M will be non-marginable at IB

I couldn't agree more. The more guys running risky strategies relying on leverage leave IB, the better I sleep.
