IB (finally?) admits to matching orders internally

What makes you think they don't still charge exchange fees if they find both sides?

What is the craziest mistake you've ever made trading?

Yes and No. I do remember but I closed my BD the last day of Feb 2010. I joined a prop firm but was not trading yet.

    Option Routing (Market Makers)

Execution rules on options vary from exchange to exchange. In general, customer take priority to any broker dealers but some exchanges might allow the Designated Primary Market-Maker" or "DPM" be guaranteed a percentage of the volume for directing the order to that exchange. There are also 15...

    Option Routing (Market Makers)

Your terminology is confusing me a little and I'm not sure where you are getting the BID from. If you are talking about the single legs adding up to a 5.00 debit and you can't sell it at a $5.00 credit, that might include a 1 lot that the MM don't want to match. You can quick try and leg the...

    Trading the vol surface

I'd love to hear how you can set that up as a Customer or Pro-Customer with those latencies. I don't expect that is possible even as a Member/MM without a very expensive hosted setup.

The Bid Ask spread of UVXY is much smaller than VIX future so day-trade UVXY instead of VIX future?

So do the VXX and other derivatives of the VX Future. I'm not suggesting anyone choose to short these. I'm just saying if I choose to trade either the ETF/ETNs or the Future, I would choose the Future unless you want to take advantage of how bad these ETFs/ETNs are created. I can tell you that...

What is the craziest mistake you've ever made trading?

Let’s play, can you top this: I was a Market maker on the AMEX. One of the symbols I traded was RIMM, BlackBerry Ltd, back before the split when it was trading around 225-235. The stock was up 7 points that morning and the options were busy and I was having a good day. At lunch time, I wanted...

Shorting futures has no cost of carry, unless your clearing firm charges extra. We don't.

IB (finally?) admits to matching orders internally

BTW, in addition to our relationship with Wedbush securities, we are also introducing brokers to IB and I have a number of LVX accounts there.

IB (finally?) admits to matching orders internally

IMO, IB automates their risk to keep cost down. They can't staff themselves to do it manually. That manual process can protect the client in cases of errors in their system.

The Bid Ask spread of UVXY is much smaller than VIX future so day-trade UVXY instead of VIX future?

If you are a scalper or DT, why would a tighter spread and a contract with less meat be better? To make the same amount of money in a ETF/ETN, I have to trade a lot more. Also, if you are trying to buy on the bid and sell on the offer, the equity products trade on multiple exchanges, ECNs and...

    Option Routing (Market Makers)

What do you mean by "the order meeting the limit." Can you give us a live example if you do it later? The spread, price and time entered. Then we can each see live the issue, if there is one.

The Bid Ask spread of UVXY is much smaller than VIX future so day-trade UVXY instead of VIX future?

You don't borrow money when you day trade equities. Do you only borrow money if you hold positions over night that are greater than your liquidating equity.

The Bid Ask spread of UVXY is much smaller than VIX future so day-trade UVXY instead of VIX future?

If anyone here is goint to trade futures, you should learn to check with the exchange website to find the increments they trade in, the value of each increment and any other important information like hours of trading, expiration, what happens on expiration etc. Since IB is your brokers, you...

    Anyone have RIA?

I expect you are getting ahead of yourself and these comments are confusing as they don't apply to you right now. You don't have to be concerned with this yet. It is also not clear to me you need to understand this for SMA. If you do, then your disclosure documents would have a questionnaire...

    Anyone have RIA?

"Generally only larger advisers that have $25 million or more of assets under management or that provide advice to investment company clients are permitted to register with the Commission. " That sounds to me like you have the option to register with the SEC vs your state rather than a...

+VX is a 1256 contract and UVXY is not. Better tax treatment.

I missed that. Where is that requirement?

Cheating is a little strong. Each clearing firm is running the business the best they can givin current regulations and the risk that makes them comfortable. You have the choice to stay or go. The ultimate vote.

15 is much more than most states.
