Technially, this looks strong to me. I'll be going long on confirmation of strength, but ready to reverse short on any sign of weakness or failure to take out levels from Thursday.
Happy hunting all! And don't get too hard locked down in a bias either way. That can be costly. :)
With Europe being closed today and still on holiday - is there any reason to suspect a 'muted' US session today or is it business as usual in the good old USA?
That's why you have a daily stop limit to manage your risk. I'm not suggesting to double down to infinity. I'm not even suggesting to double down, but varying bet size based on estimated probability/confidence in the trade.
Further, you're assuming every entry has the same probability of...
Thanks, comagnum. I'm happy to say that I've never averaged down or been tempted to. I've always known about the concept of adding to winners, but it's only recently I've been implementing it and I do believe it has some promise for my style of trading.
Of course it's not 'the fucking same'. It's all relative to account size.
You can't speak of 1/50/100 lots without mentioning account size.
1 lot on a 100K account is different than 1 lot on 1K account. 50 lots on a 50K account is different than 50 lots on a 1000K account.
Good stuff, @comagnum.
Do you ever enter with your maximum risk all in or do you always dip your toe in the water first with say half your maximum size?
This is interesting, scaling out/in aside.
Assessing accurate probabilities is not easy anyway. At least not on trade-by-trade basis. But certainly there are trades where the odds seem to stack up better - and as such, these should be taken with the maximum bet size.
Is that what you're doing...
Calm down, already.
The logic you're trying to imply is already a given, so you don't need to be stating the obvious. The assumption is a retail trader in a liquid futures market. I don't see anyone suggesting that a retail trader is moving the market.
Adding to a winning position as I...
Well, I disagree. And I view it differently than you do.
When I enter a trade - I always have an anticipated scenario for how price will move towards my target.
Adding to a winner would then mean that I add units as price action confirms that my anticipated scenario is unfolding.
Here's a...
But when you're stopped out - you take a full loss on yor maximum position?
And you're scaling out of your winners? I assume you must have a high win percentage for this to work well and trade instruments that trend very well.
Hi all,
Happy Easter! :)
I'd be curious to hear from (day) traders what your approach is with regards to position sizing.
Do you keep it fixed at say 1-2 % per trade or do you have another approach?
Generally, I've always used a fixed position size throughout the day in relation to my...
If we zoom out a bit and review the last weeks - here's what's happened:
1. We found a bottom in week 13 on Monday the 23rd of March @ 2179,50 ES. We traded higher for the remainder of that week and closed near the top of the range.
2. Week 14 (last week) was a consolidation at the top of the...
I'm no expert on the VIX, but I believe VIX is a measure of implied volatility as in daily percentage change over the next 30 days.
The statistic I'm showing is a record of actual 'micro' price movement, i.e., swings over the course of a given day.
Today was the smallest RTH range since this whole 'sideshow' started. The daily range peaked at the 13th of March with 218,25 points. My proprietary volatility measure peaked at the 18th of March.
Both have been slowly contracting ever since.
It remains to be seen if volatility will pick up...
The market bounced strongly off yesterday's HOD. Didn't even manage a gap close on this push down. And that's going into the close on a long weekend.
HOD/LOD most likely set with a small chance we can make a run higher. IMO.
