The easiest trade in the world (that I think is wrong but seems to work anyway)

Never understood why, if someone is bullish on gold, would buy gold stocks. Just buy gold!! You can leverage up if you want byuse of futures/ options, leveraged etfs.

Blackjack player beats 3 Atlantic City Casinos for $15.1M

I read he made $5.8 million over 12 hours at one casino. Assuming flat betting £100k, over 2500 hands (thats about 2-3 hands a minute), the odds of him winning $5.8m are about 10%. Not exactly impossible!!! (There are plenty of bj odds calculators on the web btw).

Blackjack player beats 3 Atlantic City Casinos for $15.1M

This chap was lucky. He probably had good streaks of wins with very few losing hands. I've had that myself in the past. I've turned £500 into a £1000 betting £25 a hand. There was no edge, it was just luck (or positive variance), nothing more. I've also turned £500 into zero as well. I'm...

    Questions for experienced daytraders

The point I was trying to make is that i know emg is in awe of larger traders, namely the "house" :D , because he believes they are invulnerable. I was just trying to show they are far from invulnerable due to many of them going bust. I do agree they have many advantages over the "smaller...

    Questions for experienced daytraders

emg, you're putting traders who work for the "house" on a pedestal compared to others. But I worked for or perhaps in the "house" as you put it. Wouldn't say it was that much of an advantage. In fact, some of the strategies were somewhat insane.

Blackjack player beats 3 Atlantic City Casinos for $15.1M

I recall reading about a few video poker games in Vegas that have a small player advantage.

    Identifying an edge

I've already read that, but all it shows is that this guy was lucky. Nothing to do with self discipline (he said he doesn't count cards, and the pit bosses are no doubt keeping their beady eyes on him at all times). Also, he benefited from a 20% cashback deal on his overall losses which makes...

    Questions for experienced daytraders

These former lehman guys can't be that good otherwise lehman wouldn't have gone bust!! Applies to other firms, notably hedge funds that have gone bust. As for HFT firms, I wouldn't be surprised if they all go bust in the future and "need" to be bailed out. Same thing applies to the other...

    Questions for experienced daytraders

But there are plenty of hedge funds that go bust every year which i'm sure no one would say they are "small traders" that are not bailed out. Come to think of it, Lehman Bros weren't bailed out either!

What's your maximum allocation to a single stock, sector, or market?

I'm happy to put 100% of my net worth in a single commodity, index future, currency. But not in single stocks.
