padutrader, there is truth to the counter trend trading. One advantage of counter trend trading is you avoiding the "noisy" (many support price action in the middle of a big range.) price action.

Please explain volatility measure. Are you referring average true range? If so, what difference does it make, price action determines the stop loss location. Then adjust stop loss as needed. No need for average true range or volatility, just gets in the way of things.
