"P.L. 104-191 contains changes in the taxation of U.S. citizens who renounce or otherwise lose U.S. citizenship. In general, any person who lost U.S. citizenship within 10 years immediately preceding the close of the taxable year, whose principle purpose in losing citizenship was to avoid...

For all the crybabies: Why not say "FU IRS" and leave the US?

Yes, still Canadian citizen. This is related to the "sever all ties to Canada" though. If you "maintain a presence" in Canada you will have to pay taxes on worldwide income. If you "sever all ties", you can get around it from what I understand. That includes "residential ties"...

Canadian money manager Sprott says 'U.S. is at beginning of an economic depression'

Sprott is one of the bears that deserves some respect because his funds we not -50% for 2008, unlike other gold bugs. I think he was down single digits in his main fund for 2008 and is up 10+% in January 09. FWIW: Attached find the year end 2008 letter by Sprott.

    Traders...immune to recession?

Ask those traders that had their accounts at Lehman Prime Brokerage London. They lost their entire accounts. Billions went up in smoke. The biggest risk in "this" recession is not price action but your brokers/banks going belly up overnight leaving you empty handed.

    Japan Is Already In Depression

We've seen examples of emerging markets a) with no domestic consumer market to speak of b) GDP primarily comprised of infrastructure spending and exports going into steep contractions (-8%, -12% peak to trough) rather than "normal" G7 recessions (-3%, -4%). Let's see how this one...

    Mish vs. Schiff
