Aren't we always paying the spread?

In my experience you can often do better than the NBBO spread when it is wide.

Capital needed for algorithmic trading at the retail level

I would say no, that is not enough. Pattern Day Trading requires $25,000+. If you are not going to DT and it will not be a large portfolio, why automate it just because you can? Bob

    netflix short

I have to disagree about their service. I have no opinion of the future of the stock price. I have enjoyed many of their original programs: Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Medici, Marco Polo, Iron Fist, House of Cards, The Last Kingdom, Luke Cage and Orange is the new Black. During the summer when...

Lightspeed Trader Adds Short Locate Functionality

The process can be automated. The concern is that traders will ask for large and frequent locate requests and never use them, reducing the locates available for those that do. IB and Etrade are self-clearing BDs with millions of clients. They have to automated all their services or nothing would...

You should use an email request. Many support members watch those requests.

IB market making in options - Conflict of interest possible?

I checked the CBOE and ISE and both have it on their schedule but at a cost of $0.00. There are 15 option exchanges. I can't check them all but it is a good assumption that for now it is not an issue. Since it is still on their fee schedule, I guess that means they can change their mind at any...

IB market making in options - Conflict of interest possible?

mskl, There are a lot posts since this morning. Most are correct. Let summarize and add some. As I can't be sure what IB has told you, I assume you entered more than 390 orders per day on average over a month. To put it simply, a month with 20 trading days*390=7800 orders...

IB market making in options - Conflict of interest possible?

This is a restriction from some option exchanges that have market makers. They don't want you competing with their market makers with customer priority. You can do this as a professional customer.

IB market making in options - Conflict of interest possible?

Yes, Timber Hill can take the other side of your trade. If not them, then another MM. As long as your order is subject to price discovery on an a exchange, I don't expect you are harmed by this.

Because the world changes so much over 10 years, I think looking at current implied ATM vol works better, as we are talking about DT. CL-Sept 2017 ~29.50 CL-Oct 2017 ~29.15 Much higher than ES. Bob

Where to Find Average Bid/Ask Spreads of an ETF/Stock?

If you are rebalanced daily, why not use the close of the primary exchange. Unless your volume is very large, it is fair assumption that a MOC order would have received that exact price. If your AUM is a large number and you would have rebalanced throughout the day, use the VWAP for that day...
