direct statistical trading a "clearly" defined approach by NTW31

So what you did was combine "normal" TA (a trend channel) plus a statistical study of up and down bars. The trendline coincided with a high probability reversal based on up-down bar statistical analysis. Is this correct?

    Most expensive trading books?

    The J L Lord books from randomwalktrading.com. They're $300-$400 each. The set of 4 is $999.

If you could master one strategy, which would you choose?

The one where I wake up every morning and see how much my bot made me overnight.

Neural Networks don't work for trading

Exactly. They're pretty good for pattern recognition applications like OCR, etc. But in trading there *are* statistically significant price movement patterns. For instance, multi-candle candlestick patterns such as "Three White Soldiers" etc, could be quickly and easily identified with a NN.

    twitter with success

If it gets looked at enough it's absolutely ripe for stock manipulation. post lies, hyperbole, false rumors, etc and jerk the stock's price for profit.

Any good book on Statistical Arbitrage?

I found this fellow's web site years ago when looking for how to automate yahoo stock scans. It's a treasure trove of excel and VBA, as well as general trading and math ideas. Looks like I'll have to archive the whole web site now LOL.

What are some reasons to trade ETFs instead of futures?

If you're trading with a small account, mini sized contracts may not be small enough to control risk. The smallest size you can go is 1 contract. But you can buy an arbitrary number of ETF shares to give better scalability. Of course, you run into the problem of commissions being a more...

An Honest Question For the "gainfully" employed

There are varying degrees of wage-slavishness. I've changed employers 4 times in my 29 year career as an engineer. But friends of mine from my first employer (out of college) are still there and thought I was crazy for leaving. I've had friends who are contractors and change jobs every year...

calculator to derive IV skew from VIX

The VIX is a cooked-down number. Relative IVs for the various strikes and expirations have to be calculated individually based on price, etc. There are many tools to do this. Hoadley's is one, another is OptionsOracle.

Any good free or low cost stock news letters, websites, email, etc?

One of the best newsletters I've seen is stocktiger.com. The guy has a nice web site and sends out a newsletter e-mail every week. Every day he has new watchlist additions and a video explaining the rational of them. It's purely technical, he has a chat room and a forum for posting trading...

IB & Pattern day trader rule

Yes, you can day trade in an IRA within the PDT rules. You just can't buy stock on margin or short stock.

    IRC or other chat rooms

Triple leveraged ETFs have some subtleties that aren't obvious. For one, there's a time decay aspect. I won't pretend to understand this, I'm just pointing something out. There's another thread around here somewhere where the OP claimed that going short both FAS and FAZ is a no-risk money...

    IRC or other chat rooms

FAS/FAZ are great, just don't hold over night. They're prone to sudden large moves which translates to high reward:risk. Very nice.

    IRC or other chat rooms

You said you found othernet, but they host many varied specialty rooms. Have you explored them all? #enthios is good (civil). It's basically a market profile variant. You didn't say what you trade. There are several good rooms for forex, each one dedicated to a particular trading...
