It seems like you are putting the cart before the horse. Why don't you put your app into production and if see if there are any bottlenecks based on the traffic you are getting. Then you can analyze metrics like the slow query log to see what issues there are, if any, and what config options...

I wouldn't really classify myself as ripped these days. You would be surprised at how fast it all goes away after a few weeks of not working out.
