So this is what low-vol looks like...

Yep, time to dig in the closet and pull out those old systems trading with the VIX at 15. Too bad. It's be nice.

    Switching careers?

What a wonderful idea. You're just going to pop into the local exchanges where they haven't learned anything in 350 years, and show them how it's done. Great hotels, fancy cars, beautiful women. All yours. (You'll do better going from country-to-country standing on busy street corners...

Hampton Homes Decline Most Since Records Kept; Cali Home Prices Fall 36%

If by the public's perception of LA you mean open spaces and easy driving, yes, you are right. That's the LA of 30 years ago, which is much like it is here now. (Phoenix, however, is becoming more like LA at present, with so many moving into the area.) But Scottsdale isn't Phoenix. There's...

Hampton Homes Decline Most Since Records Kept; Cali Home Prices Fall 36%

It had always been my dream to end up in that area, having lived there and in San Diego as a kid. But everytime I go back I just shed a tear. Horrible traffic and congestion, taxes, expenses, immigration, etc. etc. So now I live in Scottsdale and just drive over for some long weekends...

    Brokers are scum.

With apologies to Jack Schwager, I'm thinking: "Stock Market Lizards"

Failed futures traders switching to equities

Your post was thoughtful and well written, but left out one very important point to this discussion: Timeframe. A daytrader, working only in that environment, may find stocks easier to trade, IF they know what they're doing. But in my considerable experience with both stocks and index...

Future does not confirm the past!!

Do you UNDERSTAND why a strategy is working in backtesting? Do you really comprehend the logic of it? Does it make sense? Can you verbalize it, and see the same circumstances repeating themselves for a reason? Can you sense when it will work, and when it doesn't, and why? If you do...

Consecutive losing trades…How many can you take?

I don't mean to avoid your questions, but they all need to be answered in the context of the system one is trading, and the experience of the trader. There is nothing more valuable than experience, because only with experience can a trader develop a sixth sense that tells him when there might...

Failed futures traders switching to equities

I've found that the biggest problem with most struggling index traders is that they try to fight it out intraday in very short timeframes. That's very difficult and IMO a terrible way to spend the day. If that's your case, then back off and integrate some daily bars into your testing...

University student who whould like some advice

Jack, I personally have no problem having read your ridiculous posts for these past few years. But I have a huge problem with you laying your crap on a student who is sincerely looking for some guidance. Honestly, this is what I would expect from an asshole. You're old enough to know...

Failed futures traders switching to equities

In theory, that's correct. But in practice, it can often be another story. When trading equities, you can often be right on an entry in that particular stock, but crushed when the market (the index) moves against you. For that reason alone I moved to trading the indexes a few years ago...

Consecutive losing trades…How many can you take?

I concur. Any drawdown at all deserves a look at the overall trend and whether you're in touch with it. And if in doubt, stay out. No matter how good the system.

    About William Derber Gann

Well, he'd be a hell of a lot funnier than that E-Trade baby, don't you think? Especially if he did it naked. I wonder if YouTube has a file size limit for videos though. That might be a problem for Jack, given that he'd probably run to about 3 hours to explain a chart. :D

    About William Derber Gann

Hey, lay off Jack, okay. Jack is, in fact, the ONLY trading industry comedian working today. And he deserves our applause for that. Never since Gann has someone been so successful - and damn funny - at making something so simple appear to be so complex and mystical. I've tried...

University student who whould like some advice

There are many things I don't like about TradeStation, as compared to Investor RT. TS is much more difficult to code, and difficult to test an entire portfolio versus a single instrument. Spend your money testing and learning, not throwing it away in trades.

University student who whould like some advice

You'll lose your cash quickly. Trading, especially Forex, is a tough game that will take you years to master. You'll be MUCH better off by initially investing that cash in good backtesting system software and build some systems and confidence before putting a penny into the market. Look...

    The system trader's prayer

When I was in the Navy, I found jarheads like you amusing. Especially in the North Atlantic in 75 foot seas when you guys spent the day puking in your bunks.

    About William Derber Gann

Yes, I have in fact read and studied probably 90% of the trading books that have been published in the past 10 years. And I regret to say that of those many hundreds of thousands of words, I could probably summarize the truly valuable information in about 500 of those words. And a good...

Trader with side business of managing seperate accounts

I'll make this as clear as possible for you. If you are providing ANY advice and being paid for it, you need to immediately seek the advice of an attorney who specializes in securities law. There are very specific state and federal regulations that will apply to you. And take it from my...

    About William Derber Gann

Or, in Gann's case, See one...lose one...teach one. Which is also the case with the vast majority of published "experts" in trading.
