Aug 25, 2009, 4:11 p.m. EST Staples profit drops 38% as big companies pare back While small businesses are feeling better, large accounts still trim costs. Current profits are nothing but: COST CUTTING. Can't last...second wave down coming soon....

Gold above 1200$ an ounce in 2009?

Investopedia explains Deflation Declining prices, if they persist, generally create a vicious spiral of negatives such as : falling profits, closing factories, shrinking employment and incomes, and increasing defaults on loans by companies and individuals. Who's the idiot ?

One word: deflation. Gold can't rise when real wages are dropping like a stone. Duh. Which university taught you economics ?

    Fooled by Randomness

Options are never mispriced if there is a lot of liquidity (example: QQQQ) and let's not forget that old Vic had some tremendously profitable YEARS. In fact he was one of the top money managers around. His undoing was his attitude: Instead of credit spreads, he insisted on going naked....and...

Shoppers Ain't Really Shopping: Spin City

Almost miraculously, the hedgy's UNOBVIOUS bet pays off. RTH August 85 put options expire worthless as RTH closes at 85.27 on expiration date.

RTH at 85 !! His short 85 puts look to expire worthless. The hedgy looks to be knocking down nearly $200k for 2 weeks of "work". Really gutsy call....so totally unobvious. That's why he gets paid the big bucks.

You are either: 1) right, and they are "skirting" the regs (with confidence) 2) wrong, and they are "right" 3) somewhere in between Let's all keep in mind, the SEC is still in a state of reorganization. I have a feeling there are still a lot of "holes" in their regs and guidelines.

There is another option which you did not mention: sub-LLC. This was in fact offered to me by a Hold Bros. satellite office: if I could establish an LLC, after a deposit of 10k which would be FULLY CREDITED TOWARDS MY ACCOUNT, I was "up and running" (I am NOT licensed). 100% payout, $5/1000...

OK Guys - treaty time. The hedgy is up today alone on his position at the close to the tune of $120k. Thanks in part to RTH going just above 84. I still like the September short position of short RTH 80 calls, long 85 calls to cover. Profit is about $320 per option if RTH closes at or below...

Exactly. as one famous trader once said: "if it's obvious, it's obviously WRONG". My logic was that if the job market was so bad, retail would remain weak as well. But it appears the market is reassessing this situation right now....and climbing that proverbial "wall of worry".

Sears Holdings : issues a terrible report and RTH STILL GOES HIGHER. Now near 84. This is pretty incredible....and that hedgy is really lucky IMHO.

That SOB is still breaking even on this bet...83 and change. Is he going to hold till expiration tomorrow ? You bet. The cost to cover is too high now.

Then you have this a-hole hedgefund manager scaring the entire market with a huge long bet on RTH. Of course, he's really sweating bullets right now...he's just above break-even at 83.61. Anything under 83 and he starts to lose. 2 days to go ! September short positions should prove to be a wise...

The SEC could care less about retail traders or small prop traders for that matter. Supposedly this agency is being "transformed"...whatever that means. However, stupid things like the PDT Rule remain in-effect....and not even on their "radar". Best to stay in the world of emini futures and...

Shoppers Ain't Really Shopping: Spin City

Yeah, but look at the Retail Holders....still holding above 80 ? THAT'S CRAZY. This market is anticipating a return of the consumer....but is that wrong ? The best play here may be credit spreads in RTH (80-85 for instance).

See....at least Keystone is recognizing experience traders with decent track records. That is a departure from their former practice of ignoring them. Overall, this is a great deal ... IF you are a decent trader. Newbies: go somewhere else or "pay up" for the training first.
