The Rise And Fall Of America

Agreed. But declaring Property in private hands to be sacrosanct means the State carries a heavy burden by which to *take* it and still retain legitimacy.

Why does open interest of E-mini S&P500 contract drop in middle of every month?

Turn the thought around: "Why does open interest + volume-traded expand toward the end of the month?" A lot easier to answer. :)

The Rise And Fall Of America

From Locke we get a triumvirate of inalienable rights stemming from Natural Law: a right to Life, a right to Liberty, and a right to Property. The "Property Right" is wildly, yet curiously, under-celebrated -- and has been so since Locke's time. But the ability to Keep What One Has Built is the...

where is the volatility for spx?

I just dig that there is actually SOME FREAKIN' VOL going on here. VXST at 9? 8? even 7s??? I priced a put spread roll, to go from Jan19 2760/55 to 2750/45 this morning -- three trading days left, and all that -- and expected to see 50¢-70¢. I was wrong. Vol had so uplifted the lowly off-market...

Real time options time and sales data export

I am NO expert, but that sounds like a *lot* to ask -- not only of the connection all the way to ToS servers, but (and perhaps more importantly) to their data-rights arrangements with the exchanges. It's not just data flow, it's *value* flow.

Is this the return of tick scalping in the ES?!?!?!

Hey -- just to update: That's not the long-wicked "spinning-top dojis" that I noticed for an afternoon or two to start this thread, but it's a good deal above a minimum (for me) ATR of 0.50 to feel safe in tick-scalping. I really thought that observation had turned into a one-time, anomalous...

where is the volatility for spx?

Along those lines, from Seeking Alpha... S&P 500 P/E Ratio: A Cause For Concern? "What the historical data does clearly show, however, is that higher current valuation levels do tend to correspond with low future financial returns. Analyzing the data since October 1977 shows that, on average...

    buying lots of etfs

A lot of what you state as premise holds the ring of Popular Truth. In reality, though, diversifying your *holdings* does not mean that you've diversified your *account.* Make a graph, or a Pearson's r table, and make sure that your thinking (at least) comports with history. (And good luck!)...

Has HFT made volume misleading ?

Putting aside the question of commissions (...it'd be a dull-witted program that anticipated making 1/4¢/share while paying 1¢/share to get it done...), the short answer to your question is, "Yes. Of course." Loading or pre-loading a book for a single candle in 2017 is no different than pushing...

Meh. Fair enough. (Great catch. :) Actually, I was just so relieved that I did not lean on Youtube for the scene. :D )

    Trading while working full time

There are three parts to that post, not one. Take them as a whole. Ask yourself (or better, your favorite underlying) how much room does a .33δ position have with 6 weeks to go, versus with 6 days? Or 6 hours? But if delta is equivalent to a P(ITM), then what's the big deal? The OP wondered...

    Trading while working full time

Be a slave to gamma. NEVER let shit get too close. Keep it a fortnight out, or more. ALWAYS. ("Hold it. Are we talking 'options'???) If we're talking equities/etfs, maybe re-word the question??

    Theta over weekends versus overnight

"...But if you survey the 'net, you'll find a grand 50|50 mix of TIME= calculations... To be clear, I use 365 for anything related to interest rates, and 252 for the rest. Why? I work the short schedule (weeklys; subweeklys) harder than most. And as you're aware, the difference between the 365...

    Theta over weekends versus overnight

Watch "reality" first, then work the model that best represents what you see for your underlying. Much of finance is captured by Black-Scholes-Merton. BSM uses TO THE SECOND, calendar days. (I think -- I forget now. It's not relevant to remember.) This matches commercial calculation of interest...
