Looking for RELIABLE source for real-time (snap shot) option Bid/Ask pricing

Can IB/TWS handle your load? I'm not sure -- but here is another thing to mix in -- I pull ~26 fields, for those 71 strikes over 6 expiries. I don't just pull price. (Or -- not just bid; ask; mid; bid volume; ask volume; volume today -- that's 6.... Yeah -- I pull 20 more. I don't know this for...

    First Option Trade

You might consider selling just 16 of 20 in the morning, and then selling 2 each of the FB Apr20 $162.50s and the FB Apr20 $157.50s. You'd end up with a sweet butterfly [-2 +4 -2] with which you might get a lot of (cheap and relatively low risk) lessons, as time burns on..... But yeah: with...

Looking for RELIABLE source for real-time (snap shot) option Bid/Ask pricing

I've used IB/TWS for such a purpose, offloading 6 expiries' worth, 71 strikes (350 points, inclusive), for ~5 years, without issue. For this purpose, I created a QuoteMonitor page for the single purpose of acting as a database source/repository. From there, I offload onto a .csv, which is...

    Smart Routing Really Smart?

:( I'm going to disagree with Robert Morse here, and offer "They're frikken *genius*!!" And what evidence do I have?? Well, the wonderful sales pitches that each platform provides to sell their SmartRoute algo as The Bee's Knees. :D:rolleyes:o_O In relying upon the statements which the...

college is a waste of money

I did both. But this was back in the day when a decent summer job could make a hefty dent in (even private school) tuition. I did all kinds of things! (I was on the back of a garbage truck when Ronald Reagan was shot -- then went to my macro-econ class that night. Yipes!) Worked 50+ hour weeks...

Terrible SPX and RUT bid/ask spreads but ES spreads better

You can see that 'Overnight Risk' factor into the prices between the 'March15' and 'March16' in the first chart. That 'monthly expiration' correspondence is even more evident in the volume, as the March15 users are heavily institutional. So, that part will switch to the March16 expiry, even if...

IBKR portfolio value broken 6am GMT

No, their history is -- wholesale -- institutional retail -- tiny, tiny, tiny retail. We be the fleas on a very big dawg. :D

Terrible SPX and RUT bid/ask spreads but ES spreads better

I apologize for the late posting of this, but the charts above were directed at a short-term horizon ('the next 6 expiries') while my usual *window* is to go out ~6 weeks. In looking at a more-standard (to me) sampling (below), it's evident that indeed, yesterday afternoon saw higher-than-normal...

Terrible SPX and RUT bid/ask spreads but ES spreads better

Look at something other than the 3rd week expiry, and you'll see much narrower spreads. For a ~20-delta $5 spread, these are typical. These are SPX, but the ES are equivalent.

Best IB/TWS tutorials for options on futures?

No mystery here -- https://www.interactivebrokers.com/en/index.php?f=1350&t=recorded&p=1 Move slowly and identify what you wish to target. You *won't* find much on ES FOPs. You *will* find a bunch of SPX vids -- specifically from Russell Rhodes {recommended. He's not dynamic or cutesy -- he *is*...

    Trading other markets daily?

Based on *ancient* knowledge, liquidity and trending behavior would both be better in after-hours trading of U.S.-ETFs that looked at non-U.S. markets. But again: that is *ancient* knowledge -- it's ripe for updating, testing, affirmation-or-disputation. But it offers a best-of-both-worlds set-up.

follow existing trend or pick reversal

I agree with most of your post, but what you've described here (greater price movement on greater volume) is one side of the market hitting the gas pedal, and the other side hitting the brake. Reversals are composed of lesser price movement on greater volume -- in racing parlance, somebody...

    Improve Your Trading with Nitrosigine

Been a big fan of B-Complex for 35 years, for GREs to Comps to court appearances to ultramarathons to "Friday Algebra Marathons" (I spend 3-4 years teaching back-to-back 3hour algebra courses, followed by a 3-hour stat course. UGH.) and then daily, with trading. The 'increased acuity' notion...

follow existing trend or pick reversal

    1) Trend-following and Reversal-picking are, neither one, optional. 2) FWIW, a look at volatility might be helpful. The graph below depicts the S&P500 since Jan02. While it doesn't show the uncommonly-low volatility throughout 2017, it does show the sudden climb for calendar-2018. But notice in...

    Option selling for premium

You are mixing position returns and portfolio returns. 20% reward-to-risk is not uncommon for a 1-week or 1-month vertical call spread. If that position is 1% of your portfolio, then........

    Option selling for premium

Hilarious that such an uninformed opinion should be posted from an ID of "OptionsOptionsOptions". But, "whatever." As the lawyers would say, "Asked and answered." The thread to which you are posting has multiple posts which outline in theory, in math, and in history, just how wrong...

college is a waste of money

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liberal_arts_education The whole thing is good -- but get a load of just the opening paragraph. If I weren't working already (doing research on a Sunday?!? You bet your asses.) -- it'd make me want to hit the library right then and there. To wit: Liberal arts...

college is a waste of money

Wow. What a sad bunch of answers. :( Once upon a time, I heard a piece of "Christian" wisdom -- it may be from C.S. Lewis but was given to me without attribution. Paraphrasing, it goes, "Heaven is, 'anything you want.' So is Hell." In perhaps more 'earthy' terms, "Life is like a sewer -- you...

Is this right regarding these index futures?

Because what is commonly heard/discussed/quoted is the DOW and the COMP, while what is more commonly used by those actually in the markets are the S&P and the NDX. Knowing the difference can save you many :wtf:-moments. (Try another one: For many months now, it's been helpful to take the DOW...
