Why can't I get to 50% chance even?

Some thoughts: ☼ the fact that you are placing a high value on expectancy puts you above 66.7% of retail traders, easily. Probably 75%. ☼ "T/A": the vast majority of traders who have used technical indicators have no idea what they are doing. (Defined as: being able to correctly...

is it right to look at it the losses like this

No -- even accounting for entry' pricing, you'd be way screwed. For example, you bought the 2870 put (value at expiration = 0¢) and sold the 2865 put (value at expiration = 0¢) but your accounting has their spread value at $5. (or $2.50, or whatever...) BUT YOU NEVER SAW THAT $FIVE DOLLARS. so...

    my issues with IB

SO!!! First I noticed that my presets for individual options were *reversed* to the (stupid) default -- but strangely not my written combo orders... Now, I noticed that dead stuff that I pruned over the last couple of days (rolling futures-related) was not pruned, but worse, the additions of a...

What causes a security price movement?

Hence, 'the clock is ticking down.' Yeah, we're already there. And any other example you care to draw will still come down to Qd =\= Qs. If suppliers need to sell more, price will go down. If buyers need to take more home, price will go up. (And if your t'matters ain't sellin', your price 'is...

    Have we now topped . . .

We'll turn at 2950, and ease back to 2850. We need earnings. (Or, *real* China news. A goose :wtf: from Canada or the EU, even. Just to top 2950.) Real rise ("real" meaning, 'above 2950') won't happen til some solid earnings. Couple of weeks! Have faith. (IMO...!)

How do you meditate for optimizing the mind for trading?

Ummmmmm. The cows come home because their udders hurt, and they need to be milked. That be way early in the morning. Thus, "You're goin' to town?? Well, we won't see you til the cows come home!" means, you're not expected to return til sun-up.

What causes a security price movement?

Not in the least. One of my favorite [classroom] examples is, "Suppose you're working a particular farmer's table, and there are baskets in front of you labeled "$1/qt" and around the corner comes a broken-down old pick-up truck *heaped* with unboxed tomatoes at peak ripeness. What is your...

What causes a security price movement?

Price moves because Qs =/= Qd. (Exactly what Peter10 said.) What causes an imbalance between Qs and Qd? Everything that you and theMickey have proffered. FWIW, open financial markets are pretty great mechanisms, and have way-much in common with the farmers' market down the street, and if you...

How do you meditate for optimizing the mind for trading?

You have a choice between emptying the mind, to fill it with Trading, or simply filling it with Trading. I don't have time to do both, so I do the second.

    my issues with IB

...just to chime in, there is also "Save Settings as...._________" for additional back-ups. I Save Settings and Save Settings as... 2-3 times a day, in case of a power outage, TWS problem, whatever. HobbyTrading's notion about whether to take "Stable" and download it AND not (co-)save settings...

    my issues with IB

Very interesting! I have bought on the BID and sold on the ASK for as long as I've been at IB -- 12 years? And while yeah, every 6-12 months requires a TWS/screens rebuild (usually at the *most* inadvisable time possible...), it's usually not the end of the world. But curious as hell -- just an...

Citron is getting screwed by cannabis by shorting TLRY

Whattttttttt? What're you smoking?? Dot.com was a concept about an undefined product and no immediate consumers. Crypto was a concept built around an ill-defined product with nearly-unwilling consumers. And here comes ol' Herb & Mary Jane, with an *ancient* product, and BILLIONS of consumers...

    OI and hedging question

Before attributing a motive (or, 'a motive to a particular party'), I'd want to assess that straw-man idea over a number of markets and a number of market moves. FWIW, I have yet to see a reliable/robust causal link between option activity and particular party/s, that holds up to a bright light...

Anybody able to get a commission rate lower than $4.95 at Fidelity Investments?

Rather than commission quotes, you should look at 2-3 patterns of your own possible trading, and cost those out. For example, 2-3 trades a week, 2-3 trades a day, 2-3 trades an hour, 2-3 trades a minute. That will whittle your choices down to 2 or 3. :p

Study: why the stock market's volatility will increase

I have a strong suspicion that this observation misses the mark... Your study is of low VIX subsets in an overall climbing market. You assert a tie to overall increases in the market and/or market volatility in some later period. In an overall climbing market, one would expect that six months...

    Identifying a reversal (trend change)

So close!! :wtf: You state a required bit of sense in that any pattern you perceive from history should survive post hoc testing -- that's great. But then you destroy it, with "it has been my experience that every reversal 'pattern' fails 90% of the time it appears...." What you're...

Study: Hindenburg Omens and other breadth divergences - a warning sign for 2019

I think much more cogent is this: ☼ the S&P currently sits near a *very* high pe of 25 http://www.multpl.com/ ☼ when considered with a smoothed look-back of the last 10 years of earnings (increasingly relevant again, as the Great Recession continues to recede into the rear view mirror...), then...
