How many traders are actually making a living?

There was an fxcm study that showed that some 20percent of the accounts were profitable in a given month. However that wasn’t the same 20percent that were profitable in the previous month. I suspect 1-2percent is very high. Perhaps 1-2percent of traders starting with a 1mm liquid net worth...

How many traders are actually making a living?

It doesn’t matter if the number is 1percent or 5percent. It’s very small. It’s obvious why the number should be small. Trading to earn is already difficult. But trading as a retail trader trying to make it their primary source of income is fraught with lots of headwinds.

Who does make a "good" POTUS, anyways?

Someone who inspires the country to work together. Real greatness comes when we work as a team. Anyone who has run a sizable organization will quickly realize that 100 okay workers working together will do more than 500 genius workers who are infighting.

What’s Happening to the Harvard Men?

Everyone fell for the Bloomberg clickbait. This has nothing to do with Harvard as an institution. It has everything to do with a team that had done spectacularly well managing Harvard’s endowment and their flubs afterward. The author at Bloomberg put “Harvard” in the title to generate clicks...

    Hedging Vega

If you want this exposure then you should just buy shares. You can’t hedge out Vega exposure without closing the actual line. Everything else will introduce skew or term structure risk. There is no point to owning options if you don’t want exposure to volatility (realized or implied) and...

So how do you feel about the demographic shift in the US?

Let’s say it’s 1920 and I proposed to double the US population by importing poor peasants from Ireland and Italy. Would anyone have voted for that? Does it remotely seem like a good idea?

The solution to America's obesity problem...

A modest proposal. The government buys everyone their own AR15 with bump stocks. That will make mass shooters think twice about going on suicidal killing sprees!

There is no democratic stance for open borders. Stop reading Fox News. There is a huge middle ground between separating children in detention centers and open borders.

If all professional traders at banks/FIs are making money, who is losing?

Bank pnls are really a fee for a service of either execution, balance sheet, research, etc. This is true whether it’s commissions, market making, or direct charges. Institutional investors pay this fee in order to conduct their business. It’s no different than paying an insurance broker or...

Why did Paul Tudor Jones fight so hard to suppress this video?

It wasn’t something people did. Howard marks pulled his book “Margin of Safety” around the same time.

Why did Paul Tudor Jones fight so hard to suppress this video?

He looks like a douche and until recently a highly public image for a hedge fund manager was a liability.
