I don't know anything about FIX, but ActiveX shouldn't be a cycle hog, unless the code is poorly written (in which case, surely the user base would have complained).

For a pure, seasoned, nonemotional trader, that might be true. For traders who still have emotion clouding their objectivity, indies can serve a useful purpose.

I never did. The API is pretty simple and the docs are decent, IMO. It's not too hard to hammer out w/o a starting example.
