Apparently there was some suspicion that the transactions prior to the halt were erroneous. Apparently the were not.
Why is everyone trying so hard to avoid a recession anyway? Recessions are *good* and necessary.

Oh, I dunno. If you believe the numbers they're throwing around 1000 sickened, 68 dead, that's pretty bad. Almost 10% if you want to look at it that way.
Everyone loves a good conspiracy theory, but I think it's just a good, old-fashioned screw-up. I and others have observed that Oanda's client and server implementations have become less reliable in the last couple of years.
I suspect the L5 values are being calculated using some volatility measure such as ATR.
I've seen this thread for a few weeks now but never actually looked at it. It seems interesting. A long-only system is particularly interesting for trading in an IRA for instance.
On the day in question everyone was having problems. The FXTrade desktop, web-based and mobile interfaces were all timing out.

Your max risk on put selling is almost the same as your max risk on buying the stock. Theoretically any stock's price can go to 0.
If you buy a stock at $100 and the price goes to 0, you lose $100. If you sell a 100 strike put when the stock is $100 for $1, your max risk is $99 ($100 - $1)...
